I hate asking for help.

Accepting it is even harder. Anyone who knows me will tell you that.

But here I am. Asking.

We are so nearly at 1000 pre-ordered copies of The Productive Garden Companion. It makes me emotional to even say that. 100s and 100s of you have bought a book you haven’t even seen. Trusting in something that doesn’t exist in your hands just yet.

That overwhelms me, in the best possible way.

This book has been two years of my life. Pretty much full time. An incredible leap of faith (Thank you @janeswillson for landing in my inbox that day).

And it’s a funny old world. A number like 1000 means something to publishers. But that’s not why I’m asking. I’m asking because of what it opens up. What it makes possible next.

So if you’ve been waiting to buy your copy at one of my events, this is me asking you to pre-order it now. From your local bookshop, or through the link in my bio. Then bring it along on the day. The legend himself! I was thrilled and not a little over-awed to have the opportunity to work on this masterpiece from Mr @tonytan53 who has many accolades to go with his skill, encyclopedic knowledge and immense generosity.

This book is already ground-breaking just for its ingredient glossary, but tours the marriage of cuisines across generations and continents with grace, precision and depth.

A true tome with lots of passion going on under the hood, led by @janeswillson with a wealth of talents including @_georgesaad & @kristyallenart on design, a glorious Trentham shoot with @markroperphotography @lee_blaylock , edited by @david__matthews__ and myself with helpers along the way, proofread by The Toni Mason and publicised far and wide by campaign dumpling manager @sarahhatton41

A Beard nomination.
One of the greatest honours of our careers.

What was supposed to be a 6 month project, became 18 months. A project that persisted during the hardest time of our lives and survived by the patience and passion of our publishing family @murdochbooks
I’ll take this minute to think about everyone who made this possible. Thank you.

This is a great book — because it stands on the shoulders of countless people who believed hospitality, knowledge, and generosity were worth preserving.
To all our friends and contributors, thank you so much for your help bringing this to life and making it the book that it is.

In the bar, you don’t make drinks for yourself. That’s the rule.
Use every opportunity to nurture or create a relationship. To foster curiosity. To make someone feel seen.

Hospitality is at its best when ego is discarded, knowledge is shared, and service becomes something bigger than self.

Cheers to all the authors who put their hearts in a glass, or on a plate.
We see you.

It’s taken a minute for this one to sink in.

When @michaelmadrusan and I first sat down together after getting the final edits over to @sassy.hirsch @andyoconnor1 @jbwolfy months after the final deadline, desperately sleep deprived and square-eyed, we pondered on what it might be like to have this book in the running for a James Beard Award. We felt the weight of our achievement in our bones that night, after years of pushing the boundaries of this behemoth and perfecting it from every angle. Long before we had any idea what the world would think of what we’d done, we quietly acknowledged eachother for our heroic efforts. We felt full, of gratitude for one another and for our incredible @murdochbooks team, of expectation, wondering what might lie ahead in this new chapter, and of accomplishment - our relationship had survived yet another stint as co-authors, we can do hard things!

Yesterday morning we woke to the news that we’d made the top three books published around the world in our category in what can only be described as the Oscars for Food and Beverage: The James Beard Awards courtesy of @beardfoundation. To be acknowledged in this way is nothing short of a lifetime achievement in itself and we are truly humbled to see our names alongside so many industry greats (we have all your books).

We are so proud of this book and of everyone who has contributed to its journey. Cocktail culture is so exceptionally vibrant and we are honoured to be representing this inspirational industry on the world stage.

Special mention and congratulations to fellow nominees and Murdoch Books fam @helen_goh_bakes and @mali_bakes ❤️

A lovely ode to how the things we grow are not just vegetables, they have stories and histories of their own and need careful consideration and of course gorgeous flatlay photographs (my favourite is the alliums). Such a gorgeous project to be a part of by @provenancegrowers , led by @janeswillson and with the divine design of @pfisterer__freeman w/ @meganjpigott shot by Luke Burgess and edited by Katri Hilden and myself. Lovely one to curl up with as the weather gets cooler and it will live on in an Italian edition coming soon!
