MY FIRST MURAL🎨🖌️

This summer, @hillcrestbsd reached out to bring color and excitement into their elementary school gym. Through a series of sketching and deliberation I landed on this playful scene of their beloved tiger mascot enjoying a number of sports.

As this was my first painted mural, I learned several lessons while simultaneously falling in love with the process. Follow along to see behind the scenes of this project and many more to come!

Yesterday morning I had the amazing opportunity to celebrate a project I have poured the last year into with a ribbon-cutting ceremony! 🎀✂️

This journey began last fall in a service learning course taught by Boise State Graphic Design Professor @erynp , where we partnered with @ibo_at_boisestate to solve the issue of bird strikes through design. After 7 weeks of research, our class identified that a dotted window decal would be the most effective solution for preventing bird collisions with windows.

The @boisepublib at Cole & Ustick was a prime target for bird strikes, especially on their south-facing windows near the children’s area. The library generously took interest in both our research and my conceptual designs, recognizing not only the importance of protecting Boise’s bird populations, but also understanding the impact that art has on strengthening community spaces.

In addition to the effective dot pattern, my mural design incorporates illustrations of birds, clouds, stars, and wind swirls. My goal was to create a design that easily integrated with the buildings aesthetic while simultaneously achieving the look and feel of a children’s storybook. The result is fun and lighthearted, making the play area welcoming and inspiring for all children and parents who occupy the space.

I am very grateful that @boise_mayor Lauren McLean and the Boise Metro Chamber joined me in celebrating this intersection of art, community, and environmental preservation!

Hello! I have so many updates in my design world to share with you all. Over the summer I had the coolest opportunities to intern with both @drakecooperadvertising and @woodvineco Each experience taught me so much about design, advertising, and marketing and I walked away with some amazing friends and mentors:) I started my senior year and kicked it off with learning how to book bind in my hand process class. I am also taking a new media course where we are learning about the ins and outs of touch designer, an animation software. Along with my cool classes I am now working as a graphic designer for Boise States student newspaper @arbiteronline I am so excited to continue sharing my progress and successes here and thank you to everyone supporting me through and through❤️‍🔥 by @jansso.designs

This week I had the amazing opportunity to display a scaled-down version of a project I’ve been working on at the ArtSci Air Sense Showcase.

Last semester, I took an Applied Projects in Graphic Design course where my class partnered with the Idaho Bird Observatory to address a pressing issue: bird strikes in downtown Boise. These happen when birds can’t detect reflections in glass and fly full-speed into windows.

After extensive research and collaboration with IBO, we developed a solution—a dotted window decal pattern that breaks up reflections and helps divert birds safely away.

To take the idea beyond the classroom, we reached out to buildings in Boise experiencing bird strikes—and I’m incredibly excited to share that two Boise libraries loved the designs I created and will be installing them on their front-facing windows!

I’ve continued working on this project this semester with the support of my professor @erynp and the amazing @ibo_at_boisestate team. The full-scale decals are set to be installed at the Bown Crossing Library and Cole & Ustick Library next month!
