Summer, Part 1? We went to soccer games, took our pup on hikes… my intern graduated… I hopped on a plane to see family and friends in Missouri… my former roommate left Idaho 😭, and there were a few pretty sunsets.

Very blessed to have this life.

Wild birds face numerous threats, and one of the deadliest is window collisions, which claim the lives of up to a billion birds each year in the U.S. Birds often mistake reflections for open sky or fly toward indoor lights, especially during migration.

A new collaboration between @boisestate_schoolofthearts, the Intermountain Bird Observatory (@ibo_at_boisestate ), and the @city_of_boise is a first step towards a solution. Strategically-designed decals can help birds recognize windows as barriers. This fall, the Library! at Cole & Ustick (@boisepublib ) received custom bird-safe decals designed by Boise State senior Amber Jansson as part of Assistant Professor Eryn Pierce’s Service-Learning graphic course. Professor Brian Wiley installed the decals, making it a true campus–community effort.

Pierce will continue her conservation efforts with a new grant that will support her work on the bird strike problem with Idaho elementary students. Our very own Amber Jansson, graphic designer, designed the @boisepublib’s newest mural in collaboration with the Intermountain Bird Observatory. The mural is intended to not only bring public art to the windows of the library, but protect Idaho bird’s from bird strikes.

Today is International Women in Engineering Day, and it seemed appropriate to celebrate our summer intern, @amber.jansson for joining this incredible industry! Amber is going into her senior year at @boisestateuniversity, and we’re fortunate to benefit from her outside perspective and eye for graphic design. @woodvineco actively works with multiple engineering firms, and we’re grateful [today and always!], to the women who further this industry with their passion, tenacity, and dedication. Special shoutout to local organization, @idahowomeninaec - which stands above the rest in bringing together an incredible cross-section of our industry. From technical to administrative, each role is vital, and we hope our own lives inspire other little girls to enter this exciting industry!👷🏼‍♀️ Marketing AEC internship and mentorship.
