Punch Room Tokyo has been named the Best Bar in Japan at Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026. It has been two years and four months since our grand opening in March 2024, and to have reached this moment feels almost surreal. It still feels like I'm in dream. This is the 11th edition of Asia’s 50 Best Bars. The title of Best Bar in Japan has previously been held by some of the most influential figures in our industry: High Five led by Hidetsugu Ueno for the first four years, The SG Club led by Shingo Gokan for the following two years, and Ben Fiddich led by Hiroyasu Kayama throughout the four years following the pandemic. Receiving the baton from those who have shaped not only Japanese bartending but the global bar community is both an incredible honor and a tremendous responsibility. I have always hoped to contribute positively to our industry, but from this day forward, I feel an even greater responsibility to become a bartender who can inspire and support the next generation of bars and bartenders across Japan, even in the smallest way. It’s about reflecting on the philosophies and techniques built by those who came before us—things at risk of being forgotten—and finding beautiful ways to reinterpret them for today’s guests. Trends always move in cycles. They fade away, only to return in new forms. Right now, we’re witnessing a beautiful return to the classics. But the next few years are going to be even more exciting. We’re going to see sophisticated hybrids that blend classic foundations with bold new experiments, while distinct local styles evolve simultaneously across different Asian cities.
