Happy Mother’s Day lady,

For a long time I thought being strong meant never letting anything get to me. I didn’t think there were many things that these two shoulders couldn’t carry. Life’s been teaching me lately that true strength is actually in feeling what you need to feel, even if it’s raw and chaotic.

I’ve spent a lot of time trying to just keep going, but now I’m learning to let myself sit with the joy, the anger, the sadness, and the many other feelings that come along with this journey.

I’ll never agree with how your story unfolded but I am forever grateful to have been a part of it. Thank you for the love you’ve given and the lessons you’ve taught me both then and now.

Grief has truly humbled me in the best way.

From my first dribble to my last. Every step before and after.

For the last two weeks I have been trying to find the words and they all boil down to some form of “thank you.”

Thank you for demonstrating a love that knew no conditions or bounds. Thank you for your ability to ALWAYS see the bigger picture. Most importantly I thank you for all of the time shared.

That list could go on forever. Rest well my sweet lady 🤍💫 by @jaredrhendryx

Lap 30 complete,

A lot of things broke my heart, but it fixed my vision.

To my family, friends, and anyone who has and continues to hold me up I wish I could put into words how grateful I am for you all 🤍💫. by @jaredrhendryx

Where would I be without basketball? I couldn’t tell you. Lately I’ve been more interested in learning who I am without it. I stopped playing organized ball after graduating college in 2017 with zero aspirations to play professionally. I’d be lying if I told you that it isn’t still a part of my identity or that it doesn’t continue to play a role in my life from interactions in public to outside expectations.

“Who you play ball for?”

“I hope you not wasting all that height!”

When you’ve dedicated so much of your life and time to something it can be a tall task to fill that void once it comes to an end. The reality is that only about 2% of all collegiate athletes will ever play their sport professionally. The numbers are even lower if we factor in what most people would consider playing for a “livable” salary.

@thenxtplay is not here to tell anybody to give up on their dreams and aspirations. It is a community and resource to let you know and show you that life doesn’t stop just because your sport does. If you play it right life after sport may just turn out better than you could’ve ever imagined. by @jaredrhendryx
