Trumps proposed arch in Washington DC is definitely an attempt at a crass display of militarism and fascism. But the same people who are pushing the outcry over the planned building of this arch, are the same people who will tour the dozens of other US monuments in DC -- all of which are in themselves expressions of racism, militarism and imperialism. These liberals oppose Trump's overt brand in favour of a more subtle and 'enlightened' form which speaks about universalism and equality all while it builds the largest prison system in the world and hopes to bring 'civilisation' and 'European values' to the so called darker continents. This is the meaning of other DC monuments like the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial, the US Air Force Memorial, etc. Even the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial. All of these are attempts at universalising the American project, claiming a white supremacist colonial foundation can be extended to include the conforming Other. Despite sometimes using left wing ideas and language, it does so in a tokenistic sense, in order to hide the fact that the American project is by definition racist and imperial. Hence the liberal outrage at Trump's arch is not just hypocrisy, but a way to hide their own support for Imperialism. by @jaredsacks1
