I belong to a God who invited me to love Him with ALL of who I am.
Heart, Mind, Body & Soul.
How can I love God from these parts of me if I don’t love these parts of me?!?

So…for what it’s worth:
Following Jesus & having a Therapist…
Praying & Meditating….
Spiritual Disciplines & Medication…
are not mutually exclusive things!
I need ALL of it to love God with ALL of who I am.
And I’m better because of it.
It doesn’t make me LESS of a person of faith.
It makes me more WHOLE!

There is NO SHAME in needing support.
So if you NEED IT…GET IT!
Because your Mental Health is SPIRITUAL HEALTH!
And if matters to God…maybe it should matter to us, too.

H E A L I N G
Your healing matters.
It matters to God.
More than you know.

Your healing is worth the work.
For you…and for others.
Because your healing can have a compounded effect.
Your healing can be a part of healing others.
Your transformation may be the inspiration someone else needs to know it’s possible.

This is a part of the sacred work Jesus invites us to join with him in.
To be healed.
And to be a healer.
To be what Henri Nouwen so brilliantly and beautifully called us to be - WOUNDED HEALERS.

Simply put,
hurt people who are healing,
heal people who are hurting.

And what a beautiful thing it is to be a part of both.

SO….here’s to your healing.

The Bible tells us that God is our Healer.

He's the One who not only restores but redeems.

He's the One who binds up all our wounds.

He's the One who makes all things new... including you and me.

That's what only He can do.

God can heal our hurt.

So here's to our healing.

Son.
I am so beyond proud of all of who you are and all of who you are becoming.

While it is hard for me to process the fact that you are 21 years old…
It is not hard for me to see all of your outstanding character and the deep values that shine through you.

From your faithful and consistent love of God…

To the way you love and make #WeAreTeamStevens laugh…

To the love and loyalty you have for your campers and counselors at @ymcacamptecumseh …

To your leadership and the many ways you serve and support your coaches and teammates on @baylormbb …

To the brotherhood and belonging you create through @baylordelt …

To the way you are excelling as a student at @bayloruniversity …

It is not hard to see and celebrate you.

I continue to pray the prayer I have prayed over you since we brought you home from the hospital:
“That God would grow you into the man He created you to be.
That you would understand and express your God-given emotions.
And that you would always have the courage to do what is right.”

I love you, son.
I’m so proud to be your dad.

3 0 T H A N N I V E R S A R Y ! ! !
Today, Jeanne and I celebrate being blissfully and blessedly married for 30 years!!!
That is a…LONG…time.

Statistically, less than 35% of marriages make it to their 30th anniversary.
That puts us in a matrimonial minority.

But we haven’t just “made it” for 30 years…
We have grown…
We have been stretched…
We have faced challenges…
We have walked through loss…
We have raised two amazing adult children together…
We have started a beautiful Church together…
We have cheered each other on…
We have met both Beyoncé and Mariah together…
We have told each other the truth…
We have become much of who we are today because of every day that we’ve spent together over these last 30 years.

I fundamentally believe that the most important decision you make in your life,
next to a decision to say “YES” to Jesus,
is the decision of who you say “I DO“ to.

And I had no idea when I said “I DO” to you 30 years ago, all that God would do in and through our lives together.

Jeanne, I genuinely and wholeheartedly love you more today than every day that’s come before.
And I can’t wait to see all that God is going to do over our next 30 years together!

You are my love.

Happy Birthday @jeannestevens!!!
No one I know gives more of themselves for the sake of others than you do.
Countless people have been blessed by you and are better because of you.
But none more so than Myself, Elijah and Gigi.

I am so grateful to God not only that you were born today but how you have lived your life just about every day since.

I pray you get just a glimpse today of how loved you are by so so many people.
But none more so then Myself, Elijah and Gigi.

May you receive TEN TIMES all of the life, love and leadership you have poured out to so so many.

No one I know does it better.
No one I know pours their heart and soul into their kids quite like you do.
No one I know is as thoughtful and intentional as you.
No one I know creates more magic and memories than you.
No one I know knows more about their kids than you do.
No one I know has prayed for their children more than you have.
No one I know does all of that AND is a Lead Pastor, Author, Speaker and part time Anthropologie Influencer like you.
No one I know looks as good doing it all as you do.
And there’s no one I know that I would rather do all of this with than you.

H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y 🐞! ! !

Gigi,
As you turn 18, I want you to hear again the words that mom and I have believed about you and prayed over you since we brought you home from the hospital. Words we believe describe who God made you to be:

Brave. Bold. Beautiful.

This isn’t who we one day hope you will be...this is who we believe you already are!
The Bible says in Ephesians 2:10 that
“We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Gigi, you are made to reflect the very heart of God in all its infinite beauty and complexity. You are not only a reflection of God to us, you are a reflection of God to everyone you meet.
We believe that you have been crafted by God ON purpose…FOR a purpose!

And our prayer for you this year and every year ahead is simply this:
That you would walk into every room, every season, every relationship every high and every low fully and freely as all of who God made you to be!
Inside and out.
Heart and soul.
