I’m Jas Pinturas (@jas.pinturas), a working artist from Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

As an artist, teaching has become a pillar of my practice. However, my main source of income comes from working in childcare. Over the years, this work has been consistent and has taken many forms: daycare centers, free family workshops, summer camps, after-school programs, public school placements, and individual care. I’ve worked with children of all ages, from infants to high schoolers. My approach to teaching and childcare is deeply rooted in the arts.

I’m proud of what I do, and since 2019 I’ve become more and more dedicated to my own growth so I can be a caring, and understanding adult for the kids I work with. Although I’ve been working in childcare for over a decade, I hadn’t fully integrated the arts into my work the way I do now. Inspired by my baby sister, Alexia, I began incorporating the arts more intentionally into my childcare practice. This page, @ayotl.artes, is dedicated to her. ‘Hueles a Sangre’ 2025, Oil paint sticks, tempera paint, and latex on wood, 16”x20”🫀

Tried a different approach with this one. No image references, just memories of what organs look like in anatomy textbooks. From there, I meditated and listened to my body.

These are the organs that communicated with me the most. 🫁

This is a study for another project I’m currently working on. I can’t wait to show y’all how this painting evolves. 🧠

A current work in progress. I began this self portrait in 2017. What began as a painting using traditional methods, has now become an experimental work that combines elements of sculpture, painting and collage. Swipe to see what the painting looked like in 2017!

This is just one part of a larger, complex work. I will post more updates on this piece soon!

Hand Injury update: The last update I posted on Instagram was back in February. Since then I have been working hard in physical therapy but unfortunately my dominant hand will not be the same. The healing process is taking a little longer than I hoped. I am unable to work a regular full time job due to my injury limitations. But I try my best, and do what I can to get by.

Sunset Park • ☀️

An incomplete work is finally done. Started working with these characters about three years ago. They first appeared for this mural in 2023 but for too many reasons I just couldn’t complete it. I now accept that sometimes the incomplete work, is complete.

Go visit it while it’s still up! It’s on 46th & 2nd av.

This screen print design will now live in the streets and homes of Sunset Park. by @jas.pinturas

A work in progress. 16”x24”, Acrylic on wood.

Bird’s-eye view of Sunset Park. I began this painting in 2023. It’s exciting to see this painting already halfway done. It’s gonna get crazier.

Also, my birthday is next week ~ and I’m putting together a wish list of supplies. I appreciate all of you who have contributed and continue to support me. 2025 has been amazing for my practice, and I’m so grateful to still be creating 🖤 by @jas.pinturas

“El Circo” 2017, Oil on Canvas, 48” x 38”

A painting created during Trompas first term. I didn’t understand why so many around me were indifferent at the severity of the political climate at the time. With very little understanding of politics and the direct role they play in our lives, I painted the relationship i saw between politics and the people.

A painting that still applies today. I’d like to create something new, similar to this. The goal this time around is to apply the political knowledge I have now and create a work that speaks to our conditions today.

Herencia Viviente: Living Inheritance is a group exhibition featuring @anacelismartinez, @xicanayork, @katmiranda_ink, @earthykai, @lupitalacrimosa, and @brooklynpuma. It’s officially been a week since opening night, and I’ve taken some time to process and reflect on this project. This was my first time curating an exhibition of this scale, and I’ve learned so much, from art handling to writing a press release!

Huge shoutout to @evamayha for being so generous and taking the time to teach me what it means to be a curator, I seriously appreciate you! And shoutout to all the artists too, you’re all insanely talented and I’m cheering you on!
