Our October Tasting Season continues with SEA.

Living on the coast, the sea is part of our everyday. But our relationship with water runs deeper, holding stories of ancestry, movement, displacement, freedom, nourishment + joy.

This week we’re exploring the histories it holds and how we reconnect with the sea on our own terms.

📸 Introducing SNAPPED Margate

Snapped Margate grew out of Emerging Creatives, a week-long residency designed and hosted by People Dem Collective, bringing together eight young artists aged 18–23 from South London, all alumni of the AMT Youth Programme (AMTYP), created and run by Alice Walsh.

As part of the residency, PDC resident artist Jas Dhillon @jasbir3 brought SNAPPED into the process, creating photographic prompts around our five pillars - Land, Healing, Sea, People + Joy.

The artists explored, felt, witnessed + captured Margate through their own eyes. A curated selection of those images became SNAPPED Margate.

And now, we’re opening up the invitation.

Throughout October, our Tuesday SNAPPED gatherings invite our Black, Brown + Global Majority local community to explore each pillar together through photography + conversation.

🌍 Online, the invitation is open to everyone, wherever you are.

Respond to any of our five pillars through your eyes, experiences + everyday moments.

Tim Oshodi of Downham Community Land Trust joins us to explore land, ownership + community-led development through the story of Nubia Way, the UK’s first Black-led self-build housing project.

With Hubert Zirconium, imagine the ingredients of a future PDC home through drawing, collage, conversation + making.

Some moments are for our Black, Brown + Global Majority community and others are open to everyone. Both are important to how we gather + build community.

⛱️🌊🌞🛖🌚🌦 This last week I've been the lucky first artist to take up residency in Hut38. Since a small child I've always dreamed of having a cosy wooden beach house, and would envy the kids and families I would see enjoying them, during our own very different looking seaside days-out on the South Eaat coast.

🌼 Taking up space by physically being there, and adorning the hut with things that made it feel familiar, has been an interesting thing to witness, both within myself and in the many interactions with others.

💭 While there, I made notes of some of the memorable things people have said.

🤸🏽‍♀️ I also asked people that visited me if they were able to share a memory of what their dream space was as a child...

💕 The answers have been beautifully simple, and a joy to sit in the energy of while having the conversation.

Funny how simple so many of our childhood dreams were, and how reachable they probably are to us today.

💊 I'm really happy I got to hang out in one of mine, there was a lot of medicine for me there x

(It got me questioning, how much we possibly stand in our own way, and how simple the answer to some of our complicated questions may be...)

Oh, and one last subtle but really important thing I realised during my time at the hut - is how little guilt-free nonproductive time i/we have. Even when I go away, I feel a pressure to see and do and experience things to make the most of the time, or the money spent. Just being, without guilt, without triggers, without pressure or expectation is a profound feeling. Even in small windows.

What i took with me to make me feel at home in Hut38. A sweet care based mini residency with @people_united_ which i started yesterday . 🌊🌺⛱️🌼🌶🍋🌞🌦 🛖

So much to talk about from the day, but for now just a few photos and a note that.... I had a silent unsharable dream as an indian child in the 80's of having a beach hut 😊💭💕 taken in Herne Bay, Kent by @jasbir3
