Two years ago I woke up hungover and feeling kind of crappy. As I looked in the mirror, I decided I wanted to set some random goals to focus on. While I had managed to get more physically fit through diet, running and walking during the pandemic, I knew I wanted to lean into that journey even more. I set a plan to do a half marathon in 2022 and then a marathon in 2023. I pulled off the half marathon in Brooklyn just about 5 or 6 months later. It felt tough at the time and I was extremely tired when I finished. After that, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to manage to do a full marathon. But earlier this year I decided that I needed to make my goal happen and push through my reservations. I’m proud to say that despite the ups and downs during training, I managed to achieve that goal on Sunday in Philadelphia. Somehow I managed to run the entire time, all 26.2 miles. Thousands, and maybe millions, of people become first time marathoners every year. So it may not be the most unique dream, but it definitely feels good to cross the finish line and think about how far I’ve come in my fitness journey. Now that once tough half marathon is an easy thing that I can run any given day! 🏃🏻‍♂️🙌🏻 🥂 taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @jasdon

Bias in the news. Fake news. Conspiracy theories. None of this is new — and Newsweek's Jason Lemon isn't convinced that these things mean that the information ecosystem is broken in some unprecedented way.

💬 "There's always been problems with the media. There's always been bias, fake news, conspiracy theories. I think the difference now is just that it's spreading quicker — and there's so many more avenues for it to spread around the world within seconds."

On this episode of PopTalks, Dr. Thoại Ngô and Jason Lemon dig into what has actually changed over the past couple of years and why media literacy matters more than ever when misinformation can circle the globe in seconds.

If you're getting your news from TikTok, Instagram, or an AI chatbot — you're not alone. A growing share of young people are learning about the world this way.

But how do you make sure what you're seeing is actually credible?

👉 Newsweek's Jason Lemon has a simple rule: never trust a single source, no matter how much you like or agree with it.

"You shouldn't just trust the New York Times or just trust Fox News. You should check multiple sources."

On this upcoming episode of PopTalks, Dr. Thoại Ngô and Jason Lemon talk through what it actually takes to navigate today's information landscape without losing your grip on the truth.

In her interview with Newsweek, Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon outlined her vision for the future of data centers in Florida, called for greater accountability from Big Tech, and joked about placing a new data center near President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home.

Don’t get me wrong, I am happy living in NYC. But as far as major North American cities go, Mexico City would be a great place to call home too. Here’s to returning soon… 🥂🎈 taken in Ciudad De México by @jasdon

Ever since studying about Cortez and the Aztecs in elementary school I’ve been fascinated by Mesoamerican history. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit some amazing historic sites in Mexico, Guatemala and Peru, but Teotihuacán may be my favorite. When Cortez first met the Aztecs in 1519 it was already ancient and abandoned. Even the Aztecs were unaware of its origins—although they regarded it as a sacred place. More recent archaeological evidence suggests that that the ancient city may have collapsed due to social upheaval, with the lower class rising up against the powerful elite. I was thinking on this most recent visit how those who lived in this ancient powerful city probably never thought the memory of their society and daily lives would largely be forgotten. They dominated for hundreds of years, built the largest pyramid in the Americas and had extensive, complex trade across Latin America. Within their context, they were a bit of a super power. In the end, it wasn’t sustainable likely due at least partly to enormous inequality. Imagine. Powerful and dominant for centuries. Then hundreds of years later archaeologists can only cobble together bits and pieces of your history from the ruins you’ve left behind. Should we assume our modern world is less fragile? taken in Teotihuacán by @jasdon
