Bias in the news. Fake news. Conspiracy theories. None of this is new — and Newsweek's Jason Lemon isn't convinced that these things mean that the information ecosystem is broken in some unprecedented way.

💬 "There's always been problems with the media. There's always been bias, fake news, conspiracy theories. I think the difference now is just that it's spreading quicker — and there's so many more avenues for it to spread around the world within seconds."

On this episode of PopTalks, Dr. Thoại Ngô and Jason Lemon dig into what has actually changed over the past couple of years and why media literacy matters more than ever when misinformation can circle the globe in seconds.

If you're getting your news from TikTok, Instagram, or an AI chatbot — you're not alone. A growing share of young people are learning about the world this way.

But how do you make sure what you're seeing is actually credible?

👉 Newsweek's Jason Lemon has a simple rule: never trust a single source, no matter how much you like or agree with it.

"You shouldn't just trust the New York Times or just trust Fox News. You should check multiple sources."

On this upcoming episode of PopTalks, Dr. Thoại Ngô and Jason Lemon talk through what it actually takes to navigate today's information landscape without losing your grip on the truth.

Democrats see Iowa as one of their best pickup opportunities of the 2026 midterms, pointing to competitive races for governor, Senate, and several House seats after years of Republican dominance. While the state has shifted sharply toward Donald Trump in recent elections, open races and favorable polling have fueled hopes of a Democratic comeback, setting up a key test of whether Iowa is moving back toward the political center or remains firmly in the GOP column.

Even with ongoing back pain, I am deeply grateful for the people and moments that carried me through this semester.🙏🏽

And to the #Columbia2026 graduates: congratulations. I am so proud of you and excited to see what comes next.👏🏽

Fun fact: this spring was the first time I wore my doctoral regalia from @lshtm 🎓 - It was a reminder of the journey, the sacrifices of my parents, and the opportunities that made this path possible.🥹
