POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
snippets from my second to last soft-sunsetting post for theory of resonance, my Substack publication since 2023.

to honor my deep love for this project as a grounding and guided force in my life, i thought i’d write up a very brief, high level synopsis of what i’ve come to learn about resonance, relational resonance, and relationships over these last seven years of praxis, life experience, and independent scholarship.

thank you for tuning in, everyone. your encouragement and support has been FELT::: when i hear that my jumbling together of letters and words to make sense of what’s ineffable and senseless moves you, i am moved. thank you.

SOON i’ll be announcing the writing project that is about to receive much more creative energy. it feels exciting and a little scary and alive, so i know i’m doing it right.

sending you all of your senses as a guiding and wayfinding force in the dark. when we sense together, we survive, we are protected, we are held. and maybe even enjoying life together a little at the same time.

big love.

too many of us know the experience of sexual assault and the despicable aspects of rape culture that perpetuate the heinous behavior of men who never learned that the world is not theirs. who never learned that they are not entitled to take everything just because they want it.

we need to see the patterns earlier. we need to notice when a boy claims the playground as his. we need to notice when our teenagers don’t intervene on their friend’s bad behavior. we need to explicitly teach skills that preserve human dignity to all of our children. we need to remove leaders from positions who embody values that allow for these extreme acts to keep happening.

i tread carefully with the news these days. but last night’s dream reminds me that news we need to tune into can find us anyway, and of the power of our shared consciousness and shared solidarity as women, as people, who have been living through this bullshit their whole lives, carrying the memory of our mothers and grandmothers and great grandmothers in their bodies and who are done.

oppressive patriarchy. we are done. excuses. we are done. silence. we are done. scapegoating. we are done. rape culture. we are done. elite institutions and their leniencies for the sake of money, power, and prestige. we are done.

to jane doe and all those who have by some miracle survived living through rape culture and all of its manifestations, we stand together.

boys and men, we need your active voices, aligned parenting, and advocacy.

may we all be living, breathing, and powerful counter force embodied. by @jax_leigh_

A tearful story transmission from this morning’s phone banking with the @environmentalvoter project.

Just wanted to share with you.

Today is really simple. I’m just letting folks in Virginia know that early voting has begun and asking how they plan to vote. That’s it!

There were 25 volunteer two Wednesdays ago. This week there are close to 50.

The Environmental Vote Project is a bipartisan non-profit with a single mission to bring environmentalists to the polls as a habit. šŸŒšŸ—³ļø by @jax_leigh_

Good experience this morning with the @environmentalvoter project! They’re a non-profit, non-partisan, strategic mobilizing effort to get environmentalists out to the polls as a habit.

Did you know 11.2 MILLION environmentalists did not vote in the 2024 election!?!

That’s a staggering number. Especially when we consider how close so many of these races are across the nation.

Politicians target the issues that voters say they care most about. Even though climate change often 4th or 5th issue for voters, the numbers of people who care about this issue are not as reflected in that data as they could be.

Yes, democracy is… in shambles… and the regime is doing everything they can to suppress voter power. But they’re doing that because our vote IS powerful.

We may not know what will happen if we act, but we do know what will happen if we don’t. I don’t want the worst outcome for us or our descendants or our one home, planet earth.

Anyway, here’s a cool spot to channel your energy if you feel called.

@environmentalvoter and @ayanaeliza are phone banking every Wednesday from now to mid-terms. I’ll be joining most if not all. Sure it’s a little clunky and awkward at first, but that’s a good civic engagement muscle to strengthen regardless of what comes our way. Because friends, there is A LOT coming our way.

If you want to come over for tea at my place and make calls to fellow environmentalists over the coming weeks, hit me up. šŸµšŸ“žāœŠšŸ½šŸŒāœØ by @jax_leigh_

The very first academic study that examined the intergenerational impacts of adoption was published last week.

I sat down to read it today.

Terms like ā€˜liminal identity’, ā€˜intergenerational silence’, and ā€˜rootlessness’ really resonated.

I’m not sure I’d ever like to be referred to as a ā€˜by product,’ but I appreciate a body of research specifically naming the impact and shaping of adoption on children of adoptees.

I often find myself wondering why our experience as descendants of adoptees should matter as the severing of people from land and culture and their roots is so pervasive across centuries of struggle for indigenous peoples and diaspora across the world.

This doubt is the conditioning of comparative suffering. It is not a competition. And our interconnected wounds form webs of resilience and solidarity with one another and to all groups impacted by xenophobia, imperialism, and colonization that strengthen us as a global community of people and include all people across difference.

As a first wave DoKAD, I keep thinking about descendants of adoptees everywhere who continue to move untethered through the world without any support, without anyone to validate their struggle and confusion, without language for their experience, without witnessing.

We’re a heavily dispersed and individually siloed diaspora who are really only finding one another in recent years. It is a new kind of belonging, not because of our shared loss and trauma, but in spite of it.

Finding this community is healing. Liberatory. It feels like mending what has been lost one relationship and one story at a time.

Very grateful for this early scholarship. All the little ones in me are too.

Thank you to all of the adoptees, descendants, and adoptee constellation spaces that invite the sharing stories so openly and vulnerably. You are opening more and more in me.

It’s been 5 years since I was welcomed so warmly for the first time into an adoptee space with @adoptionmosaic.

It’s been 4 years since I was invited to gather and share my story with @bipocadoptees for the first time.

It’s been 10 months since I discovered @dokadstories and found an emerging community of people who became the first mirrors for my *whole* story to be truly seen.

Descendants of Korean Adoptees, global majority descendant diaspora, and all adult children of adoptees deserve to bring the half or more of themselves that has been hidden away by the erasure of the adoptee experience into the light.

It is time for us. It’s a little scary and I don’t know what I’m doing, but isn’t that just about perfect for the times?

Here for the many first times to come.

there’s a lot going wrong right now, but this went pretty alright.

grateful to the creativity that swept through this week and got me back on track. i think i slept an extra 12 hours. and i know spent close to two days on the floor. damn, i was wrecked from this leo szn. a pattern i hope to curb after this fire horse sprint.

really grateful for my people, seen and unseen right now. i needed those texts, those check in’s, those visits in my dreams. grateful for the ground under my feeling feet, and for the moments when i let myself get swept up by the current of imaginative inspiration that’s also kicking through the ether amidst so much awfulness and horror.

fear is real. anger is sacred. grief is flowing. protectors are in overdrive. and… to soften. to be — that is where the life is.

if you’d like some zine-spiration, swing by mine! and maybe send me submissions and collab ideas if you want to play in this sandbox. pretty psyched about this little project. (and yes we’re pissed about the graffiti)

the new zine ā€˜have i told you lately’ should be up next week or i’ll just be šŸ’¤.

xo j

p.s. i want to be away from instagram… they literally steal and sell our creativity. anyone else? but also… where else?
