My name — Jayashri — means victorious in Sanskrit. It is a name of Radharani. I have walked the path of Bhakti yoga for 42 years, and I am still learning what it means to fully live it.

I am a painter. A jewelry designer and the founder of Kavacha Designs, where I create sacred heirloom amulets I call Sacred Armor® — designed to hold what cannot be held any other way. I produce music festivals. I ride horses and motorcycles. I lift heavy things. I love this wild, sacred, impermanent life.

The Season to Go Within

When the days grow short, every tradition I love turns inward. We set out photographs and marigolds for Día de los Muertos. We say their names on All Souls. We light lamps for Diwali, eight candles for Hanukkah, a single star at Christmas.

A quick extended weekend in Puerto Rico with Michael. There’s never a dull moment traveling with someone who loves life, loves people, and is always up for an adventure. We made some great memories, met some wonderful people, and enjoyed every minute of the journey. This photo is from my first professional shoot when I was starting Kavacha Designs | Sacred Armor™ and I still love it so much. Dylan is wearing the Kerala Large Kavacha, which opens to hold a prayer, an intention, ashes, or something you want to keep close to your heart. But there’s more to this photo for me. The rock ’n’ roll T-shirt, the vintage sunglasses, her moon phase tattoo, the jewelry. It’s music, old things, the moon and stars, spirituality and a little mystery. All things that have always been part of who I am. Look closer. There is always more to the story than what you see on the surface, and that is really what Kavacha is about.

Being a creative person means creativity doesn’t stop at the jewelry I design or the paintings I make. It flows into every part of my life. The spaces I create, the way I adorn myself, what I wear and how I choose to show up in the world are all part of that same expression. I often talk about the body as a temple and what we wear as part of the altar, an outward reflection of what we carry within. I’m heading into a really exciting week with two beautiful events ahead and I’ve loved putting so much thought and creative energy into preparing for them. Not just what I’m bringing, but how I’m presenting myself and my work. It all feels connected. Creativity, intention, adornment and the excitement of stepping out into the world and sharing what I’ve been creating.

Celebrating 30 years of Shelly and Brian with a little 1920s Gatsby fun in the vineyards of Sonoma County. Posting pictures of my own face is still strangely hard for me. There’s a voice that immediately starts judging what I look like, how I’m aging, whether I should post this one or that one, or whether I should post myself at all. But part of what @jayashri.life is about is working through that voice instead of listening to it.

There’s something freeing about letting myself be seen as I actually am. Not just as the designer behind Kavacha, the artist, the mother, the widow, the spiritual seeker or all the roles I’ve collected along the way. Just me.

I’ve been an artist, a mother, a wife, a widow, a seeker, a founder, and somehow through every version of myself, I keep coming back to making things with my hands. Today it’s paint. Other days it’s silver and gold, prayer and ritual, or words I write down before they disappear. Lately I’ve been sharing more of what actually runs through my mind beneath all of it: grief, love, God, relationships, impermanence, starting over, and this enormous love I still have for being alive. Maybe that’s what I’m really creating now. Not just paintings or jewelry, but a record of becoming. I’m writing the rest on Substack.

What a weekend. Friday started with the honor of joining Michael Thompson on the San Francisco Giants field to help unfurl the American flag in remembrance of 9/11, a moment I won’t forget. From there I dove straight into preparing for my first live Kavacha auction on Whatnot. Going live was scary, challenging and way outside my comfort zone, but I did it, learned a lot and actually had fun. I’m so grateful to everyone who showed up, supported me and bought a piece of my jewelry. The first of many more to come. @foggy916 thank you for all you do! #grateful
