sometimes you get to tell people stories!
1. back in ‘92 brett shows up at epitaph with an advance of “sugar - copper blue”. we must have played that record 10,000 times on repeat, just in love with the songwriting. i was so happy to see @bobmouldmusic yesterday and thank him.
2. my friend donnie says.. “where are you? stay right there” and comes walking up with MR, and every part of my surfing youth comes flooding in. the posters on the wall, the endless hours staring at pics in magazines. i spent an hour telling mark that his style was what i aspired to, he made surfing seem so effortless. all these years later and i am still in awe of how much @markrichardssurfboards changed the sport.

about last night.
the whole day we all knew it was coming. they had been cutting set times and juggling bands all day to try to get this show done before it came.
morrisey showed up and played! i was stunned and lost that bet. in the end it was us and tool trying to beat the storm. thank you everyone for sticking it out with us! ngl, thursday i was bedridden at home, some kind of sick that would’nt even let me open my eyes. i had my own doubts about myself!

well that was fast. every night i try to express our gratitude and hopes for a better tomorrow for all of us. i don’t know if we’ll ever find it, but goddamnit i am gonna die trying. with all the love to everyone who came out to barcelona, athens and wherever the hell that awesome place in bulgaria was, thank you.

@rickmarinotravels showed up on the ‘98 warped tour with an all access pass that said “the right guy”, and he really was. do you need an 8 foot wrought iron stage gate welded in 20 minutes? done. you guys want new york sausage and cheese pizza in phoenix? done. burner phone? untraceable debit card? random hole in the desert no questions asked? done.
he left that tour like some kind of less violent but just as effective john wick, and we talked about him like he was a figment of our imagination.
but he wasn’t.
of all the things he knew (which was everything), he never joked about food. not about lavish spreads, just real local food. no matter where we were, he would find it. the right place. the best food that town had to offer. didn’t matter where, chinese food in texas or german dumplings in tokyo. he knew.
years later he is living out in the nowhere, as one does, and starts thinking about all the places he has been and hasn’t seen a flavor of the desert. what would that even look like?
