Didn't grasp the concept of a signing so failed to take my white vinyl along 🤦 Was a great surprise to have Mr Baker join 🌟 Anyway, CD era now - with possibly the best ever bonus track in News From The Front 🔥

Part II: Someday, I drove my bike to his house to get a glimpse on that record. And maybe talk him into selling me a copy. He was in bed with his girlfriend and not really in the mood to show me his ITU copies. He didn´t sell me copy either. But as far as I know, it wasn´t even the real deal, he had some copies of that german bootleg LP with blueish colored sleeve. About a year later, I picked up a bootleg CD of Into the unknown at a local record store. That was a close as you could get to that record in the early 90s in Germany. To tell the truth, I kinda liked it. Not as much as Suffer or 80-85, but I listened to it on a regular base. And I still do today. Actually, I never really questioned its existence in the band canon. Over the years I managed to pick up a few copies of that album, including a copy with both inserts. Also, various bootlegs exist, the oldest is the german with the blue tinted sleeve from the early 90s, a very good replica came out a few years ago, but it botched up the Band members names, I think it gives credit to Gregg Gurewitz. Or was it Brett Graffin? Another bootleg came out two years ago, apparently from Portugal with a very funny fake label. Anyways, congratulations to all the people who managed to get a copy of that album two nights ago, looking forward to that excuse letter from Gregg and Brett.

So two nights ago, out off the blue, Epitaph and Bad Religion launched a preorder for a new vinyl pressing of Into the unknown, actually the first standalone pressing since its original release in 1983. There was only one legit repress at all, a red vinyl version as part of the anniversity boxset some years ago. The preorder was for two variants, a nebula one for the US market and a glitter one for the European markets, both limited to 500 copies. It was obvious that they would sell out pretty quickly. I think they lasted around 4 hours. So, to honour this strange piece of Punkrock history, here is my Into the unknown apprication thread. My history with this album goes a long way back in the beginning of the 90s. In 1990 or 91, a friend played a record to me and I was blown away by the short and ultra fast songs. It was the album Against the grain by Bad Religion. This listening changed everything, before that, I was listening to Iron Maiden, The Sisters of Mercy and some stupid german punk stuff. But this album was my gateway to american Punkrock and Hardcore, the music I still listen to this day. I soon picked up their early CDs like 80-85 and No Control, but there was always talk about that lost, vanished BR album that you were not able to buy. Remember, that was the time before the internet. Information was only available tru Fanzines or the Flex book or the word of mouth. And nobody really seemed to know anything about that album, the reason why it was not available to buy. I was familiar with a guy from my town who was a DJ in Wave club and a few years older than me. He had all the records, knew about all indie bands, went to London just for record shopping and stuff. He then told me one day, oh yes, that album. I have a few copies of that. I bought them in London. I was freaked out about that. Part II soon.... #badreligionband #intotheunknown #badreligionvinyl #epitaphrecords #punkrockmusic #punkvinyl #badreligion @badreligionband @epitaphrecords @jaybentleys @brettgurewitz @greggraffin

Back home in Wilmington, North Carolina, and a particularly meaningful visit to the Cameron Art Museum, where I finally had the opportunity to see my painting How Could Hell Be Any Worse? (Red Aurora) (2024) installed with the permanent collection.

Wonderful to spend the afternoon with Ben and Heather, whose commitment to artists and to the cultural histories of southeastern North Carolina continues to inspire me.

The painting’s title nods to Bad Religion’s 1982 debut LP, How Could Hell Be Any Worse? The apocalyptic urgency of early American hardcore feels increasingly prescient against the backdrop of climate catastrophe. What was once a rhetorical provocation becomes an unsettlingly literal question in the face of increasingly destructive wildfires. The title borrows a question from Bad Religion’s 1982 song “F*ck Armageddon… This Is Hell,” whose critique of pollution and human destructiveness feels increasingly prophetic amid the climate crisis.

The painting belongs to an ongoing body of work exploring the intersection of landscape, ecological transformation, and environmental justice. Its layered surfaces of metallic and iridescent pigments shift with the light, suggesting the unstable atmospheres, incandescence, and material consequences of fire.

The work was acquired in memory of Georgeann Haas through the Claude Howell Endowment for the Purchase of North Carolina Art.

Georgeann was a remarkable artist whose work Theresa and I had the privilege of exhibiting through the Palladium/Athena Project. It is particularly moving to see my painting enter the collection in her memory, and to encounter her work again in the galleries.

There is something profoundly meaningful about returning to the place where I grew up and finding my own work becoming part of its artistic history.

Deep gratitude to Ben, Heather, and everyone at CAM for their generosity, friendship, and commitment to sustaining the arts in Wilmington.
