TCM Classics Cruise Day 3 photo dump. Today we stopped at Catalina Island and checked out the gorgeous and historic Catalina Casino and Avalon Theater, had a nice walkabout, and ate some lobster rolls. Back on the ship, we watched a discussion with Ben Mankiewicz and Dyan Cannon, and watched birthday boy Eddie Muller introduce a screening of "Force of Evil," after the other TCM hosts surprised him onstage to sing Happy Birthday. I didn't get any pics but we also saw a great presentation by legendary Disney animator Andreas Deja.

TCM Classics Cruise Day 2 photo dump. Yesterday we played Bingo with Ben, and watched Me and My Gal, Paths of Glory, and Eddie Muller's documentary about blacklisted writer-director Abe Polonsky.

Over the last few weeks, we made our way across Portland to visit all the crow statues that are part of the Wildwood: Follow the Crows self-guided art trail. Lots of really great custom painted sculptures, and and it was a really fun way to spend time in parts of the city we don't get to very often. Here's 10 of the 30 crows.

When we moved to Portland from Chicago, one thing we noticed right away is how rarely cars honk in traffic. It was especially noticeable coming from Chicago, where if someone didn't go immediately after a light turned green they'd be treated to a symphony of honking. We asked other friends who'd moved here from other cities, and everyone was like "yeah, no one honks here, it's nice!" One friend was convinced that it was illegal to honk your horn in Portland (it's not).

On one hand, it undoubtedly makes driving a more pleasant experience when you're not constantly hearing honking. On the other hand, I couldn't tell you how many times I've seen instances where a group of three or four cars will completely miss a turning light because the person in front isn't paying attention, and no one behind them bothers to honk. It's crazy.

Over the last couple of years, I've been seeing lots of (occasionally) humorous bumper stickers imploring you to "keep honking!" (My favorite is "Keep honking! I'm listening to ska and you're in the band now!") It just seems extra funny to see these around Portland, 'cause nobody's honking, virtually ever.

That gave me the idea for this dumb "Stop honking!" sticker, which I suspect may literally only be funny to me. Luckily(?), the earth angels at @death_by_stickers will do small, micro-runs of high quality vinyl bumper stickers. The minimum order was just four, so I didn't have to order dozens or hundreds of these things just to make my stupid joke a reality. Great quality, and reasonably quick turnaround time, too.

Anyway, that's the story behind this stupid shit. I've got a few extras if anybody wants one, and I'm sure to dream up more dumb ideas for future bumper stickers.

Made it out to Boke Bowl for their Fried Chicken Week special, the Boke Hot Chicken Sandwich:
Boke fried chicken dipped in hot and sour gochujang/pickled serrano sauce, Chinese mustard slaw, and pickles, on a toasted An Xuyen brioche bun. It's freaking perfect.
