The first two minutes of “Jimmy Buffett: Live by the Bay”concert filmed at Miami Marine Stadium in 1985, opening with Miami Vice star Don Johnson introducing Jimmy Buffett to the crowd. 🏴‍☠️🦜🎶

More than the opening of a concert, these images capture a Miami that was colorful, unconventional and completely connected to the water. ⛵️💦⚓️

Designed in 1963 by 28 year old Cuban architect Hilario Candela, Miami Marine Stadium remains one of the city’s most important works of architecture. A bold concrete structure created by an immigrant who helped give his adopted city a visual identity all its own. 🇨🇺🏛️

Jimmy Buffett helped put the stadium on the cultural map. Decades later, as its future became uncertain, he also became one of its most visible advocates for preservation. 🌴🥥✨✨✨

On August 18, City of Miami voters will once again help determine what comes next for this extraordinary place.
Miami Marine Stadium has been waiting more than three decades for its next chapter. Hopefully, the music is not over. 🤞🏼

Another corner of old Coconut Grove disappears.

Yesterday, demolition was completed on the longtime commercial block that housed Sapore di Mare & several other neighborhood businesses. While Sapore di Mare has relocated just down the street, a familiar piece of the Grove streetscape is now gone 🚜

One day they’re part of the background of everyday life. The next day they’re history 📚

Onward to the next chapter of this block in Coconut Grove 🏡🥥🌳
