Meet the reader ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿคญโœจ๏ธ

I don't think in the four years I've been on bookstagram and the year since having this new account that I've ever done a meet the bookstagramer type post. So I guess this is finally mine ๐Ÿ˜‚

For any new people who have followed me (or current followers I haven't properly spoken to yet), hi ๐Ÿ‘‹ย  my name's Jay and I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. The earliest memories I have are of my nan reading Pride and Prejudice to me (though at the time I probably didn't fully understand it ๐Ÿ˜…). During uni my love for reading came to a stop and the pressures of doing an English degree didn't make reading fun for me anymore.

In 2021, for fun, I made a book account (@ _jayisreading) with the purpose to just check out new books and find out what is for me and to hopefully start reading again. Fast forward to 2022, I decided to finallyย post my own content after slowly getting back into reading and for the past 4 years I haven't stopped since. Well apart from the couple days last year when that accout got hacked and the birth of this one was born ๐Ÿฅน (@jayisreading_).

I started off as a contemporary and romance reader, but now have the biggest love for fantasy. I even used to have my bio as 'romantasy girlie' to dedicate myself to bit ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคญ At the core I probably still am, but have been falling in love with all the sub genres that fantasy has to offer. A thing I probably have got myself know for on here is when books emotionally destroy me and I share those moments for all to witness! So que more snotty noses and tears in the future on here ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have met some of the most incredible people through bookstagram both online and in person. And so for this corner of the Internet, where I meet people who love books just as much as me, I will be forever a lucky girl ๐Ÿ’–

-----------โ€----------------------------------------------------------------

I saw @camilla_reads do this on her page and absolutely loved how her's turned out, so I wanted to put my own spin on it and add a few different things in there instead. And lets just say I'm obsessed with how this turned out! by @jayisreading_

And so the Flesh and False Gods series has come to an end...

I have absolutely loved reading this series right from Immortal Longings and have been waiting patiently for this copy of Eyes of Kings to arrive to finally finish this series off! ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ˜ญ by @jayisreading_

September Wrap-Up โœจ๏ธ

September was so good to me not only did I manage to read a total of 8 books again (honestly still baffles me that I've read this much twice now). But I read so many incredible books that either emotionally destroyed me or I had the best time vibing with.

Not only did I have a great reading month, but I also went to a couple signings and met some incredible authors that I just adore (swipe to the end to see who I got to meet ๐Ÿคญ)

How was your September? by @jayisreading_

An Evening with Penn Cole ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I had the best evening yesterday listening to Penn Cole and @benaldersonauthor natter about all things Burn and the emotional damage Penn caused us all ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜ญ

Penn is the sweetest and nicest person ever and I felt like we could have spent forever talking. @authorpenncole I adore you so much โ™ฅ๏ธ

I knew I wanted to make something to give to Penn but without a zero creative bone in my body I stuck to everyone's favourite - friendship bracelets. But because I underestimated it the bracelets turned out way too small, so instead trophy bracelets they became (Luthers bracelet sadly broke before I even got to the event ๐Ÿคฃ). by @jayisreading_

10 before the end...

I have so many books I want to read before the end of the year (and so little time to read them). I did this last year and o think I read only half the list I selected. However, this year I am determined to change that. I've picked books that are a no brainer read and books that are part of a series or a sequel (because we know I'm bad at finishing series but that is not the goal this year ๐Ÿซฃ)

Are there any particular books you want to read or will prioritise to read before the end of the year? by @jayisreading_

Books with unique magic systems that I love and recommend ๐Ÿคญโœจ๏ธ

I am an absolute sucker for magic systems that feel different and are completely out the norm for what I thought could be possible. I have so many more books I could recommend, but thought to settle on these 8 that I have adored and will always recommend โ™ฅ๏ธ

Books shown in photo:
Immortal Rose by Alexandra Bracken
Soulgazer by Maggie Rapier
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft
Owl King by Bex Hogan
The Otherwhere Post by Emily J. Taylor
One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig
A Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

What's a book with a unique magic system you recommend? (Researching what i sound add to my tbr next ๐Ÿ‘€) by @jayisreading_

Oh Bartholomew ๐Ÿฅน

I have tried to write a review on The Knave and the Moon by Rachel Gillig and I just never seem to be able to write down how much I love this duolgy. For me, I absolutely adored the way this duolgy ended and have decided that I would very like to be best friends with Bartholomew ๐Ÿคญ Also big fan of what Rory 'I'll do anything you ask of me' Myndacious was doing this book ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

As I'm writing this, I am currently traveling down to London ready to meet the icon that is @rmgillig , which feels surreal to say after being a big fan since 2022! by @jayisreading_

And Then We Screamed by Holly Bourne

Before I start I want to say that this book touches on some topics that my be sensitive or difficult for people to read about, so please check the warnings before proceeding โ™ฅ๏ธ

This is my first Holly Bourne book and yes even though it is catered to the YA audiences, I feel that even myself in my 20's benefitted from this book and the true implications of why the girls Screamed.

From start to finish, this book was addictive to read and hard to put down. The build up in the plot was nicely done as even until the last moment before the revelation, I too didn't really know fully why the girls were screaming. The layout of having both the documentary style interviews and then switching back and forth with having the events unfold from both Clover and Brody's pov really made the plot drive home but also again captivate my full attention.

Without spoilers, I think the revelation of what may have caused the screaming was handle beautifully. And I did of course have a little cry during one of the moments between Clover and her parents.

A gorgeous book with very important comments made on real life issues that happen on a daily to young girls! by @jayisreading_

And so what am I supposed to do next when I've finished this collection and there's no new colour or era to enter next? ๐Ÿฅน

These books, by far, are some of waterstones' best exclusive editions that they have done! Will forever be obsessed with them ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ by @jayisreading_

Immortal Rose by Alexandra Bracken

Rating: โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

"Till Immortal Rose do we part!"

"I see you, and I will not abandon you to the dark."

Oh what a gorgeous book!

In Alexandra Bracken, do I trust to give me the most spice tingling slow burn and cliff hanger so criminally good I don't know what to do until book 2 will be in my hands.

I dont know where to begin with talking about this book other than it being simply magical and just a gorgeously fun read where I truly didn't know who to trust near the ending.

Also, from seeing Alexandra Bracken's love of perfume on Instagram to that being interwoven throughout this book really did make me appreciate how powerful scent really can be. Also how interesting is it when magic and perfume are combined and both the positives but implications it can have.

Viola is such a lovely FMC, there is a sort of power in her endurance and resilience. That after what she has went through and still fight to survive in world not built to protect women like her was beautiful to see.

Also the supporting characters in the book, mainly those in house of foxcourt truly built this beautiful foubd family relationship to life and helped make the journey Viola and Hugh are on more wholesome.

Also, give me a man like Hugh any day of the way, because my man was down bad and yearning which every inch of his soul. by @jayisreading_
