It's all coming together, finally. I've been working on this for a long time and I had no idea where it was going, and then I read that student loan funding for the arts is being cut, and that was the explosion that made everything coalesce and come together. We need creative minds percolating. Not everything has to be about money.

This is a work in progress. There isn't much content on the site, yet. The first thing will be the YouTube channel that I will launch the first week of November. I teach via Zoom and I have a great background set up so all I have to do is get a haircut basically.

I'm putting this out here so that I'm accountable because I've been talking about doing this for a long time. And now it's gonna happen. So wish me well. And you're all gonna be involved. by @jaymecivilian

It's been a quiet summer, the first in maybe 30 years or more. I took some time for myself, hung out w family and friends, had my heart broken by epic loss, ate a lot of vegetables, listened to music. The basics of living. by @jaymecivilian

Happy to have 2 photos in this wonderful exhibition @dorchesterarts in Cambridge, MD organized by the fabulous @lillian_pennypainter. There is an opening tonight and on Sept. 12. I'm hard at work on organizing my photo archive. 33 years since I picked up the camera! It's great for me to have this push!

More on the exhibition:

The Graham Slaughter Biannual Photography Competition Exhibition was founded in 2005 by former Dorchester Center for the Arts Board President, Dr. Graham Slaughter, and continues today to bring together community members and artists from the DMV region.

The theme this year is Unspoken: What emotions can only be expressed through the lens of the camera? How does the art of photography reveal the depth and nuance of the human experience?

I've included a photo from 1993 & 2002. "Deer Corn" is from a series about signage, made by hand, on Route 50 East toward the ocean. So much of it has disappeared. Please make more! by @jaymecivilian

Last evening was quite eventful. Over the past several weeks, I've had the pleasure of watching three baby cardinals emerge from a nest right outside of my kitchen window. Even during a terrible tornado producing storm, momma sat on that nest. Last night they flew the coop! You can imagine the excitement: 3 baby birds, 2 curious cats, 2 worried bird parents. One baby was on the ground in front of DD. I scooped her up, despite her displeasure, and put her back in the nest. This morning there was a sweet chorus of baby bird songs joining their elders. The baby I scooped is still close to the nest but hopping around the camellia bush, supervised by mom. Nature is a miracle. What a gift. by @jaymecivilian

I never thought I'd make this post but I'm proud of myself so I'm sharing a personal accomplishment. I'm one month in with 2x a week personal training! Never thought I'd commit, or be able to afford it. But I prioritized my own well being, and cut the wasteful spending. I am so much stronger and I feel good. by @jaymecivilian
