So many posts reasonably bemoaning the closure of Randolph Academy and the way things ended.

All of those are valid. I honour and respect all of them.

But I am here to celebrate the legacy of Canada’s private college that literally owned the trademark of “Triple Threat.”

This school had its ups and downs administratively over the years, but when you are trailblazing through arts and culture education as a private post-secondary institution, it’s to be expected.

Randolph attracted the finest experts and teachers in the business over the years. Literal icons of the industry were drawn to teach, direct and choreograph here.

What a legacy of success.

Broadway stars birthed their careers here. Broadway icons taught here. Many of the most respected names in the business worked with the emerging artists who walked through these doors.

I am honoured to have worked alongside so many incredible graduates from this place, most of whom had better craft and talent than I’d ever have.

I was honoured to join the faculty for a handful of years and contribute a tiny drop in the education of the artists who passed through the school.

Every administrator and teacher who ever worked here got it. This was a place where the industry was sending the elevator back down.

Almost everyone accepted pay that was less than what they were worth because we were breaking a mould. Building something that didn’t really exist anywhere else.

To the folks who chose this place to learn, I honour your craft and legacy.

To the educators who taught here, I honour the incredible foundations you established for so many of our finest performers.

To the administrators who battled their way through red tape to build and sustain a college for Canada’s emerging artists, I thank you for everything you have done for arts and culture.

I raise my glass to Randolph. Not to how it ended. To what it built.

Now it’s time for other arts institutions to pick up the torch and ensure there is a place for young artists to thrive, take risks and learn from the best.

What a legacy. by @jaytschramek

A few months ago, the opportunity to purchase the tap shoes of the legendary Eleanor Powell presented itself through my colleague, Rusty Frank. This once in a lifetime opportunity was something we simply could not let pass us by.

After acquiring these incredible treasures from her son, Peter Ford, the search began for the perfect photograph. We were determined to find an original photograph from the same period these shoes were worn, not a modern print or reproduction. We were fortunate to acquire an authentic vintage photograph of Eleanor Powell rehearsing with Fred Astaire.

Our display brings together Eleanor Powell’s original tap shoes, an original vintage photograph, archival documents, a personal letter from Peter Ford, and the official certificate of authenticity.

This collection now has a permanent home at Tap Shoes Canada, where dancers, teachers, and tap enthusiasts can enjoy this remarkable piece of tap dance history for generations to come. It is a privilege to preserve and share the legacy of one of the greatest tap dancers the world has ever known. taken in Tap Shoes Canada by @jaytschramek

They say it’s who you know.

I feel incredibly blessed by the people I have come to know, trust, and respect in the dance industry.

It is never easy to step away from a responsibility that feels uniquely yours, and this past weekend, another opportunity meant I could not be there to host Dance Attack myself. Without hesitation, two incredible people stepped in.

Thank you, Janice Lynn. You have been part of the Dance Attack family and culture since the very beginning. You understand who we are, what we stand for, and why every little detail matters so much.

Thank you, Jamie Hodgins. As an industry leader, dynamic personality, and experienced MC, you brought a wonderful new energy to the event while still honouring everything Dance Attack represents.

I am deeply grateful to have both of you in my life.

Thank you for being the remarkable people you are. @janicelynnkohn @jamie_hodgins by @jaytschramek
