Foto rápida que hice justo antes del eclipse total del 12 de agosto, en las afueras de La Almolda (Aragón). Fue una tarde magnífica e inolvidable, en compañía de mi familia, @polet y la suya, @f_panich y @lidiagimenezx7.
Las fotos del eclipse se hicieron con un Sigma macro 150 adaptado a Fuji, pero resulta que el enfoque iba mal y el filtro solar era improvisado. Demasiado bien ha salido 🤣...

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: @jcmimoso

Hello there!

It's time to direct the spotlight toward our community members, and today we meet @jcmimoso!

"Hello, I'm Juan Carlos Mimoso from Spain. When I was a child I never had much access to LEGO so I did play with Playmobil and other bricks, with which I built spectacular castles.

During the pandemic, my son had a couple of minifigures and set and I thought it was cool to take a photo with an interesting background and post it online. Since then, I have been hooked. I have seen that there are many colleagues around the world, and communities like Brickcentral, where tricks and ways to take the final photo are freely shared.

I took almost all of the photos with an old Fujifilm X-E2 mirrorless and the little Fujinon 27/2.8 pancake lens with a +2 or +4 close-up filter. This combination is very small and portable. I added the Fujifilm X-H1 because it has a flip-up screen, which makes it much easier to shoot low angles.

My workspace is typically my desk. I use a monitor as a background. For lighting I use LED spotlights (Ulanzi VL49 and Lumecube Air), and sometimes matchstick lighting.

My setups are not very large and I usually take several shots with different lighting and aperture, then I choose the one I like the most and use basic retouching such as cloning or filters.

I shoot photos related to medieval, fantasy, sword and sorcery environments.

Over the years, I saved some Exin pieces and I use them extensively in my creations to get a more realistic environment. For inspiration I use mainly old comics, game or movies. I have notebooks full of ideas. I learn a lot from other fellow toy photographers and I'm always looking for new ways to tell the little stories in my photos."

--- THE GUARDIAN OF THE WATERFALL ---

This weekend I made a trip to Pedraforca with the family, and I took the Fujinon 60/2.4 macro lens, recently purchased second-hand.
The idea was to try it with some of my faithful lego.
When I found this stream I knew I had to try it with Conan on horseback, watching from above.
I would have to hurry, the rain would come soon. I prepared the mini tripod, the camera, polarizer, and after a few test shots, I found the frame.
I assembled the figures, the accessories and placed everything above the waterfall, in a safe and dry area. But I was only able to take this photo because, seconds later, that pre-storm air or some isolated drop moved the legos who rushed downstream among stones, moss and branches. I was able to save everything except the spear and shield. With the rain already falling and the little ambient light it was impossible for me to find them. I arrived at the campsite soaked and with lightning already in the sky.
The next morning I went to the same place again with the intention of repeating the shot with better lighting and framing. Previously I looked for the lost weapons around the stream without much hope, and it turns out that I found the spear tangled in some roots and the shield in the crack of a rock. My lucky day!
I positioned the figure in a similar place, looking for another frame with more epicness. And before I could even take a photo the entire figure came forward. I was quickly able to catch it before it fell to the bottom of the waterfall, but when I opened my hand the sword with the sheath was no longer there. No matter how much I searched, even removing stones, illuminating it with the LED spotlight, etc... I couldn't find it. I had pushed my luck too much.
So I was left with one imperfect photo and one less original sword. I'll have to look for it second hand (bricklink and similar). Maybe it would be convenient to have some more minifigures of my favorite barbarian in case something like this happens and I lose it.

Hello again everyone. I haven't posted for months for various reasons, including some computer problems that lasted longer than expected.
I wanted to come back with something special, and I thought that a small tribute to the great John Buscema, who did so much for the figure of Conan in comics, would be nice.
I've always liked Buscema's classic drawing of Conan sitting on the old, twisted log, which can be seen in Savage Sword of Conan #17 (USA).
My intention was to save this idea for when I know how to take photos better, but it doesn't matter: it can always be repeated later.
I hope you like it.
I also dedicate the photo to my friends Justo from @elrincondelcimmerio and Montu from @eldiariodekovacs, great popularizers and connoisseurs of Conan and fantasy comics, who shares through their YouTube live streams.

Hola de nuevo a todos. Hace meses que no publico por varios motivos, entre ellos unos problemas informáticos quevhsn durado más de lo previsto.
Quería volver con algo especial, y he pensado que estaría bien un pequeño homenaje al gran John Buscema, que tanto hizo por la figura de Conan en cómic.
Siempre me ha gustado el clásico dibujo de Buscema de Conan sentado en el viejo y retorcido tronco, que se puede ver en Savage Sword of Conan #17 (USA).
Mi intención era guardar esta idea para cuando sepa mejor hacer fotos, pero da igual: siempre se podrá repetir más adelante.

Photo taken during my family vacation in Euskadi. I have not been able to take many photos, so I will upload the ones I can, along with some old ones that I have not published. On this occasion, the place (Górliz beach) inspired me several scenes in the desert, but I could hardly take this photo. The wind was so strong that the figures were blown away...

En su larga travesía por el desierto de Wahuan el bárbaro no se ha cruzado con nadie. La ruta es solitaria y peligrosa, pocos se atreven a recorrerla.
Al descender una rocosa colina, dos perros hyrkanios le salen al paso. Probablemente pensaban atracar a algún despistado mercader... pero hoy no es su día de suerte, pues han hallado a Conan.
Sin tener ni que pensarlo, su entrenado cuerpo responde. Sus piernas espolean a su montura, sus brazos se preparan para otro épico combate.
El sabor de la victoria le hará olvidar el polvo y sudor del camino por un rato.

Foto realizada durante mis vacaciones familiares en Euskadi. No he podido hacer muchas fotos, así que iré subiendo las que pueda, junto con alguna antigua que no he publicado.
En esta ocasión, el lugar (la playa de Górliz) me inspiró varias escenas en el desierto, pero apenas pude hacer esta foto. El viento era tan fuerte que las figuras se volaban...

The Convento do Carme is a neoclassical building, from the beginning of the s. XVIII, in Padrón, 26 km from Santiago on the Portuguese Way.
From the top of a hill, on the other side of the Sar River, it offers an exceptional view of the town and its surroundings.
The name Padrón comes from "Pedrón" (huge stone in Spanish), a Roman altar that is currently preserved under the main altar of the church of Santiago in Padrón.
The Jacobean tradition tells that the boat that transported the remains of the Apostle Santiago from Palestine to the Galician coast was moored on that stone.
The church of Santiago was built around that stone in 1133 and later gave the town its name.

El Convento do Carme es un edificio de estilo neoclásico, de principios del s. XVIII, en Padrón, a 26 km de Santiago en el Camino Portugués.
Desde lo alto de una colina, al otro lado del río Sar, ofrece una panorámica excepcional de la villa y sus alrededores.
El nombre Padrón procede de "Pedrón" (piedra enorme), un ara romana que actualmente se conserva bajo el altar mayor de la iglesia de Santiago en Padrón.
La tradicion jacobea cuenta que en esa piedra fue amarrada la barca que trasladó los restos del apóstol Santiago desde Palestina a costas gallegas.
En torno a esa piedra se edificó en 1133 la iglesia de Santiago y posteriormente dió nombre a la villa.
