ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: @jcmimoso

Hello there!

It's time to direct the spotlight toward our community members, and today we meet @jcmimoso!

"Hello, I'm Juan Carlos Mimoso from Spain. When I was a child I never had much access to LEGO so I did play with Playmobil and other bricks, with which I built spectacular castles.

During the pandemic, my son had a couple of minifigures and set and I thought it was cool to take a photo with an interesting background and post it online. Since then, I have been hooked. I have seen that there are many colleagues around the world, and communities like Brickcentral, where tricks and ways to take the final photo are freely shared.

I took almost all of the photos with an old Fujifilm X-E2 mirrorless and the little Fujinon 27/2.8 pancake lens with a +2 or +4 close-up filter. This combination is very small and portable. I added the Fujifilm X-H1 because it has a flip-up screen, which makes it much easier to shoot low angles.

My workspace is typically my desk. I use a monitor as a background. For lighting I use LED spotlights (Ulanzi VL49 and Lumecube Air), and sometimes matchstick lighting.

My setups are not very large and I usually take several shots with different lighting and aperture, then I choose the one I like the most and use basic retouching such as cloning or filters.

I shoot photos related to medieval, fantasy, sword and sorcery environments.

Over the years, I saved some Exin pieces and I use them extensively in my creations to get a more realistic environment. For inspiration I use mainly old comics, game or movies. I have notebooks full of ideas. I learn a lot from other fellow toy photographers and I'm always looking for new ways to tell the little stories in my photos."

Thank you for accepting our invitation and let the community knows you better!

Let’s go, I’m ready for the new week 😄💪⚔️

I had already taken this photo on my parental leave trip in May 2022. It was still lying dormant in the archive 😉

"The world is so small. Until it isn't.
.
Ready to abandon the Space Man's mission, and ready to go back home, my ship got troubled. With smoke coming out of the motor, we landed in a clear green patch. And when we did it, I knew it.
.
The water gently moved by the wind, the trees rustling in harmony, and the sun happily grazing my skin. This is it. This is the place.
.
Or maybe it wasn't. Maybe this was just another place in the map with nothing special about it, but it was the place where I finally felt at peace.
.
Maybe it's not about the place where I am going. Maybe traveling it's about enjoying all the small worlds I go."

"Slowly, my eyes get opened by a blinding light. An unusual warmth touches my skin. This is not the storm anymore.
.
As I open the gate of my ship, the jacket on my shoulders seems too heavy, too unnecessary. The suns are high, the day has started.
.
No more rain, no more cold. The summer is finally here... ☀️]
