Join us this Saturday, Oct. 17 for the Cars in the Park Car Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park! Now in its 16th year, Cars in the Park is a major annual fundraising event benefiting Adaptive Recreation programming and JCPRD’s Special Olympics team, the Stormin’ Rangers. Proceeds from the show benefit Stormin’ Rangers athletes by keeping program costs affordable, providing scholarships, and allowing the purchase of equipment and supplies.

Registration the day of the show for vehicles is $40. For spectators, there is a suggested donation of $10 per family.

There will be a live DJ, food trucks, and a 50/50 raffle. Local organization Kids & Cars will be on hand with Hot Wheels® cars and tracks, and the KC Dream Team Car Club, a community-focused non-profit, will be showing some exotic vehicles. In addition, representatives of The Parks & Recreation Foundation of Johnson County will be on hand to collect donations and greet visitors.

Come out and enjoy a fall hayride at Oak Ridge Parklands within Shawnee Mission Park. Schedule a time for your group to do a private 45 minute to one-hour hayride, concluding with a one-hour campfire, with cold apple cider and roasting marshmallows.

Grab your helmet, your bike, and your curiosity for Deep Roots KC's upcoming Guided Naturalist Bike Ride at Kill Creek Park, in partnership with Johnson County Parks and Recreation District!

This Sunday, October 18, join us for this nature-themed cycling event led by Deep Roots’ Urban Conservation Coordinator, Chris Cardwell, along with special guests Palmer Bowles from JCPRD and Jacob Canyon, former KC Wildlands Seed Technician.

We spoke with a few JCPRD Stormin’ Rangers athletes to find out which sports they love and what they enjoy the most about being a part of JCPRD’s Special Olympics team, the Stormin’ Rangers.

Coming up this Saturday, Oct. 17 is an opportunity for the community to support the Stormin’ Rangers! We need awesome cars and YOU to show up for our 16th annual Cars in the Park car show at Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park! We will have a live DJ, delicious food trucks, and exciting raffle prizes for those attending!

Register your vehicle for the show for $35 through Thursday, Oct. 15 by 5 p.m. Day of show registration will be $40. Suggested donation of $10 per family (for spectators).

Last week, over 60 students from Rosehill Elementary attended a First Green program at Heritage Park Golf Course. First Green is a program that uses the golf course as a classroom where K-12 students can participate in hands-on, outdoor learning stations that teach them what it takes to manage a golf course and educates them about the golf industry.
