NEW exhibit opening at the @jocomuseum! 🇺🇸

Just in time for America’s 250th anniversary, the Johnson County Museum is opening a new temporary exhibit which explores this national moment and the meaning of democracy through the lens of life in Johnson County.

“Everyday Democracy: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness in Johnson County” opens Feb. 7, and will run through Jan. 9, 2027. Visitors are invited to reflect on what democracy means for them today, and for the generations to come.

Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Coach Josue works with kids aged 2-12. He uses his experience as a High school & middle school band director to help kids overcome any fear they might have about learning to pedal. He says what had him come back for this upcoming season is the joy he felt watching the kiddos realize that they can balance, pedal, and ride, seeing the pride on their faces. Helping kids believe in themselves is what makes coaching meaningful to him.

Josue joined the KC coaching crew last summer, and he's quickly become a highlight. He helps the team bring incredible energy and care to every camp, creating a fun, welcoming experience for every peddler and soon-to-be peddler. That shared commitment makes each session just as joyful for the coaches as it is for the kids.

And when Josue isn’t coaching, he’s riding. Over the past year, he completed the “Kev Does 10 a Day” challenge, riding 10 miles every day for 365 days, indoor, outdoor, and Missouri weather included. The challenge pushed him and deepened his connection to the bike. From daily miles to first pedals, Josue brings patience, passion, and heart to Pedal Kids. 💛🚲

Throughout 2025, Johnson County delivered on its commitment to growth and service by completing several major projects and advancing key infrastructure updates.

🚑 MED-ACT Station 1156: Officially opened in Olathe, significantly improving emergency coverage and response times for western residents.

🚒 Sunflower Fire Station: Completed a new facility in south De Soto to bolster fire protection services.

👩‍⚕️ Johnson County Health Services Building: Construction is well underway on this central hub, which will house multiple departments under one roof to streamline resident care.

🎭 Theatre in the Park: Expanded accessibility features ahead of the 2025 show season.

🦆 Heritage Park Lake: Completed vital improvements to protect the lake’s long-term environmental health and recreational utility.

⚾ Mid-America West Sports Complex: Finalized Phase one of major updates, with Phase two on track for completion in April 2026.

Strang Park brings inclusion to all with an amazing playground design! The playground structure for kids ages 5 to 12 is accessed via embankment ramps on one side where kids can enter the Sensory Tunnel, climb across the crawl tunnel to the Super Netplex™ or work their way over, under and down the playground net, belt and nature-inspired climbers. For toddlers and preschoolers, there is the Loft and Market Cafe play structures that offer age-appropriate climbers, slides and sensory activities.

There are loads of freestanding playground components like hillside climbers, swings, and slides. Best of all, a Symbol Communication Sign was included so that every person that enters the playground is able to communicate with their family members and friends!

Since rolling into Kansas City in 2022, we’ve been on an incredible ride together! 🌻 From our very first class to the massive community we have today, the numbers tell an amazing story of confidence and two-wheeled fun.

Check out how the KC pedal revolution is growing:
✨ 2022: 100+ at 10+ locations (Where it all began!)
✨ 2025: 700 kids across 15 locations!

🌲Our camps have become a KC staple! We went from just 58 kiddos in our first year to a whopping 500+ kiddos in 2025! That’s like a TON of miles ridden.

Whether it’s our Learn to Pedal Series or our awesome 5-day bike camps in the spring AND all summer long, we are so STOKED to be a part of Kansas City!

There are many specialists in our shop. Here you can see our Metal arborist @trophycar_nm and our Metal pedicurist @moonman_metalwork hard at work on some of the details for our “Picnic” @jcprdparks One of my favorite expressions is ‘the devil is in the details’ but in this case it would be more accurate to say ‘the angels are in details’ So grateful to work with these amazing artists and so excited for this public art project in Big Bull Creek Park outside of Kansas City. #dkladesign #teamwork #jcprdparks #sculpture #publicart

Good progress on our project “Picnic” for @jcprdparks This sculpture will feature two monumental and interactive song birds, benches styled as logs, and cast bronze panels of native prairie grasses. Our amazing partners at @jcprdparks are, among other things, purchasing former farms and restoring the land to native grasses to create habitat for insects and songbirds and other species. This feels like such a great partnership for our respective teams. Something to look forward to in 2026!

We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon walking with Merlot yesterday. Honestly, after Merlot has come into our lives, we have better sleep schedules, less social media, more walks, and less TV.
