Next weekend, we’re talking about doing it right when it comes to translations at the @authortubewritingcon . My slot is at 3:00 PM EST and I’ll discuss what it takes to make a proper translation, what to look for when hiring a translator, what flags to keep an eye out for, and how to make sure your story finds a new audience without losing itself when going from one language to another. by @jdestradawriter

It’s not Halloween until you dance in the sincerest pumpkin patch. Cheers by @jdestradawriter

Had such a great chat with Laura from @whattoreadnextpod about the book scene in Puerto Rico and boy did we cover some ground. Book fairs/festivals, book stores, big events, small events, silent book clubs, bookstageammers/book tokers, and everything the community gets up to. Definitely proud and happy to be in PR to see this renewed love for books. Catch the full episode on Substack. by @jdestradawriter

The surf has been spooky good in Puerto Rico :)

In a year with a LOT of firsts for me, here’s a pretty cool announcement. I’m proud to share about my collaboration with the team that worked on the translation of Until the Blood Spatters by @josefgalarzafloresautor . It’s been quite the experience and one that is rewarding on a personal and professional level. In a year where I’ve worked several translations and freelance gigs, to be able to work on a novel of depth, darkness, and substance is truly rewarding, because apart from the gig, it’s a compelling piece of work. Being able to use my experience to edit the English translation and help elevate Galarza’s voice has been awesome and I hope anyone who picks up a copy sees the dedication from the author and the team that collaborated for this English version. I will be writing more about my experience, why I chose to be credited under my full name, and will also talk a bit about this in an upcoming seminar for @authortubewritingcon . Cheers José and thank you for the opportunity. It’s been powerful and special for many reasons. All the success to this and all your projects. by @jdestradawriter

For years, I’ve thought that a lot of what’s wrong about politics is due to team sports mentality. It’s not the team dynamics and it’s not ignoring the lessons kids and adults can learn from being on a team. It’s the fanaticism aspect of team sports and how it’s influenced public rhetoric that I think is damaging. I made my case for it on a piece on the Stack in case you want to check it out. by @jdestradawriter

Conversando y disfrutando.
