This Friday, I’m thrilled to finally share my short film, Uninvited Guest, with all of you on YouTube! 🎬✨ After years of rethinking and perfecting, I’ve realized the beauty in being vulnerable and authentic through my art.

This film is a love letter and a reflection of my journey as I explore mental health, inspired by my experiences with my mother’s bipolar disorder. It tells the story of a young man facing his own mental struggles and coming to terms with his past actions toward the one person who truly understands him—his mother.

The journey of this film began in 2018 as a class) assignment (PDP62 ) at @rl_studios where I not only discovered my voice as an artist—transparent and honest in sharing my reality—but also met my very close and lovely friend, @milaunajemai who is one of the leading ladies in the short film.

I’m a man from Chicago who grew up on soul music, and everything I put out is my love letter to that sound. But this song is also a love letter to women. I wrote it for you. Knowing someone is going to be there for you no matter what, in love and in friendship, is a beautiful message, and I wanted to put it in a song.

Bali. Mud on my chest, wind in my face, and a smile I couldn’t wipe off after. 🏍️💨

Reminiscing on this one because it’s a reminder of how I want to keep moving as an artist. Every project I’ve worked on has pushed me to want more, more range, more risk, more action (literally lol). Manifesting the next one to hit even harder.

Bali was my reset button.

Acting can be beautiful and it can be a lot. Balancing real life with a career like this means learning, over and over, that I have to replenish myself. It’s not optional, it’s maintenance.

I’m genuinely happy watching my friends win. I won’t lie and say it never stirs something in me too, not comparison, just that quiet want to feel like I’m in alignment with where I’m supposed to be. This industry has taught me a lot about disappointment and about forgiveness, forgiving myself, forgiving others, watching relationships shift as people grow into different seasons. Auditions have been slower, the industry keeps changing shape, and I’ve had to learn not to take any of it personally. Most of it never was.

What I do have control over is myself. Being a great father. Staying in class. Working on my own projects. And underneath all of it, protecting my spirit, because that’s the actual foundation everything else stands on.

No matter where I am in my career, I want people to meet me and get the real me. Bali reminded me why that matters. taken in Ubud Rice Fields by @jdlyke

18 days since we brought “Black Creek Risin’” to life on August 17th, but this deserves its flowers. 🖤

Endless gratitude to @iammarishkasp for putting my name in the room and trusting me — you’re a huge part of why I got to be here. And thank you to @itsladarrion for trusting me to bring Willie Earl to life. We need more Black writers and playwrights telling stories this rich and necessary. This character pushed me to dig deep and pull from my own life to find his truth — that’s the work I chase.

Thank you to @NegroEnsembleCompany for supporting us, and love to @59e59 for hosting us that night.

@feliciaboswell — phenomenal doesn’t cover it. She carried this as our lead, holding the stage all night, while also doing so much behind the scenes to make it happen. @mr.callycal — you stepped in and killed it without missing a beat. Thank you for showing up and doing what you do best. And to @thenoralove_ , @JasonLyke, @nicolette.ellis , @TifaneWilliams — you all brought something real to this stage. Getting to work alongside artists of this caliber is not something I take for granted.

This cast. This story. This moment. I’m incredibly grateful to be part of a staged reading that already has people talking.

Ladarrion’s play BLACK CREEK RISIN’ is something special—set deep in the Louisiana bayou at the dawn of Prohibition, following Mama Jakes, a fierce Black woman fighting to protect the juke joint she built with her own hands. As Prohibition threatens her livelihood, she turns to bootlegging to keep her family and community afloat. But when old love returns and buried secrets surface, she must decide whether to keep carrying everyone else’s burdens—or finally choose herself.

Getting to collaborate with this extraordinary ensemble on it? That’s what I live for.
