We lost someone special, someone important, our friend and former road manager, Eric Ruth. Eric died unexpectedly last week in Iowa, where he had moved toward the end of 2024, hoping to find a healthier lifestyle than the one he knew in Milwaukee. We are saddened beyond expression. I guess we spun around the Midwest four times together, short trips in between. We dodged a tornado just east of Madison, endured never-ending rain and the dystopian freeway of Lower Michigan, got lost in the cornfields of Indiana, trying to find a place called the Eagles Nest. We figured if we could survive all that, we could do anything. We joked about living a Midwestern version of Dante's Inferno, even when it wasn't funny. The Midwest is old, older than we know. We needed Eric to help us navigate it all. Eric was that person you know who almost always does more than asked. If a touring band needed a place to crash, Eric would offer his place. If we were out of T-shirts before a tour, he would take it upon himself to design a new one and get it to production (thats the shirt he designed in the photo). When our 3rd album, 'Monsters', seemed destined to remain forever an afterthought, Eric insisted on helping to pay for it. This was the Eric Ruth that a lot of people knew. This was who he was. We are a lucky band of noisy people that Eric chose us, his friends, to help and support, to join in our in our adventure. We dedicated 'Monsters' to him. I wish we could have done more. Looking over Al's shoulder, watching the world go by. 50th Street, Kenosha WI, 4th of July 2026 at @theportofkenosha - Statue of Al Molinaro, the Kenosha-born actor who played Al Delvecchio, owner of Arnold's Drive-in on Happy Days (also Murray the Cop on the Odd Couple). The Molinaros were a big deal in Kenosha, the father being a successful restaurant and hotel owner who sponsored Italian immigration to the US and helped build Kenosha's Italian community. Al's brothers got into politics - Joe Molinaro was the longest serving DA in county history and then a judge. George repped Kenosha in the state Assembly for 30 years, even ran the joint for a term. They were Democrats. And then there was Al on TV sitcoms throughout the 1970s. The little nook at 714 50th Street, where Al's statue stands, is a time capsule. Check the 1927 building across the street, home of Champions Sports Bar "where you're the MVP". The Port itself is filled with Kenosha memorabilia, like the stolen "Employees Only" parking sign from the long gone American Motors plant and the ancient KISS pinball machine. We always have such a great time playing there, too. 🎶 Hell yeah Kenosha!!!
