Most surfers warm up their legs and forget the shoulders and upper back.

A broomstick is all you need to open both before you surf. Moving the stick through big circles and sweeps takes your shoulders and thoracic spine through range, while the heel-to-toe footwork and slow tempo wake up your coordination and control. Those are the exact qualities your paddling and rotation rely on.

Don't lift heavy weights before doing these two moves.

Most warm ups get you loose but not ready. These movements help switch that mind body connection on - so the body can produce force before you ask it to under load. by @jdt_training

Four point surfer turn.

If you feel strong in the gym but shaky through turns, this ones for you. The cable loads you through all four points and your job is to stay stable the whole way through.

Can't feel your core when you train? Carry something heavy.

The medball carry teaches the brace. Ball in tight, elbows high, walk tall, and picture a little jab in the stomach with every step.

Watch a surfer's back foot through a turn and it's doing constant small corrections, absorbing and redirecting force sideways on a moving surface.

That's ankle agility, and flat-ground gym work barely touches it.

Skater jumps train it directly: push laterally, land on one foot, stick it, then go again. The stronger and quicker your ankles react on land, the more stable you feel over your board. by @jdt_training

Surf-specific warmup

This warm-up flow prepares the exact connections the session will use. You hinge with rotation, then step and throw across the body, tracing the line from the left hip to the right shoulder. Surfing drives every turn through that diagonal, so waking it up first means the training that follows lands where it should.

Try to power through this one and you'll fall apart.

The broomstick walk asks you to move at your normal cadence while your arms and legs cross under each other, and the only way through is to slow your brain down and let the pattern come.

Were essentially working our mind muscle connection, perfect before any training session

Surfers spend hours paddling and barely train the muscles that do the work.

The gorilla row targets them. Rowing from a hinge builds the lats and upper back that power every stroke, and opening the chest at the top adds the rotation your turns rely on. One movement covers the pull and the rotation while your trunk holds you square. I coach it with the surfers I train because it earns its place.
