Uzumaki Series : #000 Genesis

Water-based spray paint, acrylic paint, acrylic paint market on Canvas

I have learned so much this year. I have been celebrated, I have been humbled. I have felt every single emotion possible. As a result I’ve become so much wiser. But a wise man knows he knows nothing at all. The wisest realization I’ve had is that everything I have and everything I am I owe to God. I do not know where id be without his grace. I dedicate this painting to him. He took me from a space full of darkness and kindled the light within me. My sole purpose in life, from here on out is to spread this light through out the world. To help others nurture the light within them. To leave this earth a better place than I found it. The first 5 words in the Bible are ā€œ In the beginning, God created.ā€ As his children, it is our divine right to do the same.

Thank you and God bless you. by @jedleemetayer

#008 : FAITH
Spray Paint, Acrylic Paint Marker on Canvas
40 x 30 in

The feeling of being in the midst of a storm.

Barely being able to see in front of yourself.

Overwhelmed by everything around you.

Not knowing how far away your destination is.

If your destination is even a physical place or simply a state of existence.

In the distance, barely, you see a light.

Is it the sun? A Star?

Regardless. It is a point of reference.

That we must move forward

The finite strength of our human bodies will eventually give out

But what will never give out. Is faith

#009 : Wilderness
40 x 30 in Canvas
Water based spray paint, Acrylic Paint

The wilderness, biblically, represents a core part of our spiritual journey. It is the space between who you were and who you are becoming. It is the space between the chains of our former ignorance and the glory of our promised land.

The wilderness is a place of trial and internal conflict. As we wrestle with ourselves we realize what weighs us down. What traits of ours we can take with us. What thoughts we have aren’t truly ours, or are simply a reaction to former circumstances.

As visceral as the wildness is, unless we have trials to help us identify our weaknesses we will never know where our strength truly lies. If we cannot face our own darkness how can we invite light within us. If we cannot achieve victory in the wilderness we will never be able to survive in our promised land.

Be encouraged, brothers and sisters. Godspeed.

ABIDE
24 x 24 In Canvas
Water-Based Spray Paint, Acrylic Paint, Acrylic Paint Marker

I took a break. Not that it’s something that needed to be announced or broadcasted. But something I had to acknowledge.

I had to realize how you rest is just as important as how you work. We are all doing our best to manage our resources, and the most valuable resource of all is time.

The one thing you can never get back.

The thing is because of how much we do with our time we forget to just sit there with it. To reflect on how the time is spent. To reflect on what we often take the time to think about, and what we don’t.

So that’s exactly what I did. But the thing is there is a very obvious limit to my own human understanding and wisdom.

I’d find myself engaging and tangling with beliefs and ideas that were counterproductive or just untrue. Even if I know that, I couldn’t counteract them. I tried my best, but I needed help.

So I invited God into the conversation.

I asked him for peace of mind. I asked him to help me navigate and organize my thoughts. I asked him to break my self destructive cycles. To help me build a clearer and brighter future.

And from what I understand, he told me ā€œSure ! Just remain in my presenceā€

For John 15:7 says ā€œ If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for youā€

And Matthew 6:33 says ā€œā€œSeek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.ā€

Words from Jesus himself.

So that’s what I’ve been up to all this time. Just finding time to just sit with me and God and chop it up. And I’ve got a lot more peace of mind now.

Still, there are many unknown variables in my future. Many things out of my control. Many things that require a large amount of patience.

But overall, I’m optimistic. Cause God got me.

Anyway thanks for reading this, thanks for engaging with my work and ideas. God bless you. You are prayed for. You should pray too !

Peace

METANOIA
48 x 48 in
Water-Based Spray Paint, Acrylic Paint Marker on canvas

ˌmedÉ™Ėˆnoiə
(n.) change in one’s way of life resulting from spiritual conversion.

Metanoia is the Greek word for repentance. Repentance in itself being a very emotionally loaf word. For many it invokes feelings of shame, guilt and sorrow. Wanting so badly to be better than we currently are but missing the mark. That in itself is all sin really is. God just wants us to change.

Guilt, shame and sorrow are not things God gave us. So he wouldn’t want it be the framework that we build our change. What he has given us is the gift of grace. A priceless gift we must accept. It’s not something that to beg for. It’s not something we can earn. It’s yours. we can return for whenever.

But in our acceptance of it we must change the way we think. We must reframe how we live. We must make choices and think thoughts that are aligned with the elevated version of ourselves we hope to become. And when you fall short, which you will. METANOIA and try again.

(Additional notes)
This painting was made in a time where my own restlessness has reached a peak. Mentally I’m still kind of there but through these works I’m coping through them. The thing is my brain doesn’t stop thinking. Doesn’t stop moving. The only time it does is in moments of intimacy. Whether it be with my friends, family or God.

In the studio I pray not stop about my goals, anxieties, future, past, people and places. I find solace at the fact that He has heard every single one. by @jedleemetayer

HUMANITY
48 x 48
Water-Based Spray Paint, POSCA Marker

My Humanity. An aspect of myself I’ve rejected for so long. I mean, obviously I know I am a human. I just hate all the limitations that comes with it.

Therefore I focus so much on being better. Ironing out my imperfections. Pushing forward always. It’s exhausting. I focus so much on transcending my weaknesses that I forget my strengths. I forget my God given gifts. I forget that I am enough.

If I allowed myself to pause for a moment and look back, I’d realize just how far I’ve come. Instead I charge forward relentlessly in the name of growth. In an attempt to achieve a state of perfection that will never come.

Though my intentions are good natured, without balance I deprive myself of ever feeling satisfied. I miss out on a crucial ingredient. Grace. And understanding that I am only human. And I try my best every day. And that’s enough

Hello hello,

I wanted to let you know that it is my FINAL MONTH as an artist in residence of Pompano Beach. My fellow Artists in Residence are having a Group Show : Vernissage open now until June 27.

The works displayed are 3 pieces about my growing relationship with myself and God. Realizing that it is an infinite and volatile journey. And expressing what I’ve learned as I still try and find the words to explain it.

I want to say thank you to @bacapompanoarts for providing me with all the blessings that came with being an artist in residence. These last 9 months have molded me into the most free and confident version of myself.

And to my fellow AiRs, I love you. I’m so proud of you all. And I look forward to growing along side you even if we may not be physically together.

MY FIRST MURAL IS OFFICIALLY COMPLETE.

As a two time resident of @miamicommunityradio I was selected to be the artist to create the back drop of their iconic DJ Sets. This means the world to me since they were the first people in Miami to take a swing on me 🄲

Coming to @dear_eleanor305, the venue in which Miami community radio is located, I felt nothing but warmth from everyone I got the honor to work with. I wanted to immortalize that warmth and gratitude through this mural.

Thank you Miami Community Radio and Dear Eleanor for the opportunity ! I will be returning for another season. So everyone keep an eye out. Sending love 😁 by @jedleemetayer

GRACE
20 in circular canvas
Water-Based Spray Paint, Acrylic paint Marker (POSCA)

What exactly is grace? Well for starters it’s something I denied myself for a very long time. Not because I harbor any resentment towards myself but based in the desire to be better than I was. I want to be great, I want to show up for the people around me, I want everything I produce to be EXCELLENT therefore I push myself.

But I realized that the standard I pushed myself to was borderline perfection. A standard I would always fall short of. A standard even higher than what God himself expects of me. The weight my own expectations began to crush me. As I realized to expect perfection is to deny one’s humanity.

I had to accept I am a flawed man with imperfections. And that I always will be as long as I breath. However, my efforts to improve on my flaws, to grow, to heal, to understand. They were always good enough. Your best is good enough.

Even the way I prayed was flawed because I constantly beg for forgiveness even tho it has already been given to me. How could God forgive me despite me constantly going back on my word. My human brain couldn’t wrap itself around it. I feel unworthy of grace, and maybe that’s true. But regardless it is a gift. It doesn’t matter if you believe you deserve a gift, someone gave it to you with all the love in their heart.

And if you appreciate a gift you use it. And if you love a gift you share it with others. So I’m encouraging you to be kinder to yourself. You’re doing your best. Your best is good enough. You’re improving over time. Everything is okay. by @jedleemetayer

TRANSFIGURE
Water-Based Spray Paint, POSCA
48 in x 48 in Canvas

Transfigure (verb.) to transform into something more beautiful or elevated.

I want you to reflect on that word. What transfiguration may mean to you. What choices are you making to aide in this process. What choices do you make that counteract your own elevation. Take note of that and take care of it.

But please pay attention, the definition makes a key phrase that you become MORE beautiful. This implies a preexisting beauty. Preexisting beauty that needs to be intentionally nurtured and guided. Take note of that and take care of it.

If you like this piece then I’m happy to let you know it’ll be at a group show titled ā€œI’m still hereā€ at ArtServe this Friday! The opening reception will be from 7 - 9 PM and I hope to see you there.

God bless by @jedleemetayer
