We’re rolling into the third week of this summers open circle sessions. Come on out and join some of the areas up and coming as well as top high school and college level throwers preparing for next year!

Plus be ready for an announcement about a “big guest” preparing for US Nationals who will be training alongside the throwers beginning at next week’s Hammer session, let’s just say there’s “78” reasons why you should be there!

Kalnas has been working with The U Movement for just over a year, training athletes and active individuals from elementary school to 80+ years old! With more than two decades of experience, two degrees in Exercise Science, and as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Coach Kalnas has worked throughout the NCAA D1 – NJCAA DIII ranks.

Entering his second year at Rowan University and 20th year at Rowan College of South Jersey – Gloucester, as an assistant coach simultaneously for both Men’s and Women’s Track & Field programs, Kalnas though specializing in the throws, also handles strength and conditioning for all event groups. He has helped lead the RCSJ – Gloucester teams to four national championships (women in 2013; men in 2014, 2018, 2019), and three team national runners-up, as well as a dozen plus Regional titles.

Individually, he has seen his student-athletes win 50 NJCAA DIII event national titles and earn All-American status 120+ times. In his first year with the University (2024-25), he guided his first All American for the Women’s team to a 6th place finish while the Men’s team finished 3rd overall at the NCAA DIII National Championships. Collectively he has helped to secure nearly $2,000,000 in scholarships for high school athletes and/or transferring college athletes.

During his career, Kalnas has earned a host of coaching honors, being named the NJCAA/USTFCCCA National Assistant Coach of the Year six times and has been chosen as the Regional Assistant Coach of the Year 14 times. As a USATF Level 1 certified Track & Field Coach he is also Safe Sport Certified within the approved coaches registry. And still competing at 43 years old, he is a two-time National Champion at the Police and Fire National Championships (’23 & ’24)

Well here we are, officially year one back in the NCAA and ready to begin day one at the National Championships! It’s tough being away from home again this long but @heidimarie.12 has been holding down the fort and FaceTiming so I get to see Willows smile and hear her growls.

All American OG @isabelledeal05 starts us off in Jav today at 3:30 pm coming in ranked 18th, and will throw shot tomorrow at 2:00 pm entering ranked 9th. If you know Izzy then you know she’s been fighting injuries that would arguably sideline anyone else, but it’s been solely her decision to be here and throw in her FIFTH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

Following up at 5:45 pm is @damitrius_hester our Sophomore All - American, having finished 3rd at last year’s National Championship he enters ranked 6th this year and poised to unleash a bomb.

@rgebhardt18 will be leading our Jav crew into what will undoubtedly continue to be an All American filled coaching tenure.

Starting this year of coaching off a little differently and though entering my 21st year in the college ranks I finally decided to take an opportunity I’ve had a couple times prior. In September I accepted and have been in this role but waited to announce, respectfully.

I’ve been blessed to have my dad, multiple uncles, and my cousin @kalnasjon who still compete and solidify a foundation of wisdom in this sport, friends who continue to offer their knowledge at the International and Olympic level, youth, high school, college plus post collegiate Throwers who have trusted my Cousin Jon and I’s process within the private ranks and my wife @heidimarie.12 understanding the sacrifice this decision entails.

NCAA DIII, you’re on notice, I’m officially here and no longer only have two years to develop student athletes. I can now say I’m a Prof and the newest assistant coach as the Throws Coach for Rowan University Men’s and Women’s Track & Field!

It’s funny going back through pictures from the past year, trying to find ones of only you and I, but there’s so few, since now it’s “us”. We didn’t think we’d be parents, yet here we are, celebrating three years of forever and the second as Willows mommy and daddy.

The moments fly by, though feel like time is standing still, and yet here we already are, having celebrated Willow turning one year old!
