So many artists, neighbors, and friends have given their time, talent, and heart over the past year to bring this community back to life after Hurricane Helene. I’m honored to stand alongside them and proud of what we’ve been able to rebuild together.

The @jeffreyburroughs Jeffrey Tote, has become one of those pieces I genuinely use all the time! I carry it for shoots, meetings, travel and everyday running around. It transitions easily from one setting to the next.

Two years ago, Helene changed our community forever.

The clips at the end are from RADFest one year after Helene. A moment when you showed up. Not because everything was fixed, but because you were still here. Still creating. Still rebuilding. Still leading with hope.

Now, just over a month away from the next RADFest, I keep thinking about how far you’ve come.

This community has inspired me more than I can put into words. You’ve made me want to show up more, work harder, and give everything I can to the people and the place I love.

There is still so much work ahead of us. But these last two years have taught me something I’ll carry forever:

When we lean on each other, there is very little we cannot do.

Recovery isn’t a straight path. But Asheville, you inspire me to keep moving forward.

Continuing to build the dream. ✨💎🥂

I’m so excited that in just a few weeks we’ll begin soft opening our new home at @philmechanicstudios

We’re actually opening in three phases as we continue bringing everything I’ve imagined for this space to life.

Does that mean three celebrations? I would hope so. 🤭🥂

Here’s the plan:

OCTOBER
Get the doors open! We’ll welcome you into the new Jeffrey and introduce our wine bar and wine program. Jewelry, wine, stories, and gathering. Finally, all under one roof.

DECEMBER-ISH
The next layer of the space comes to life. The custom elements I’ve been designing and having made will begin finding their homes, including these gorgeous custom doors, lighting fixtures I designed specifically for the space, and a faaaab mosaic inlay I’ve been working on.

SPRING 2027
We head outside. Our patio comes to life, the entire vision comes together, and we celebrate with our official GRAND OPENING.

There is still so much work ahead, but watching something that has lived in my head for so long slowly become real is pretty incredible.

Thank you for following along, cheering us on, and believing in this next chapter with us.

Jeffrey Burroughs (@jeffreyburroughs) doesn’t believe in luck. “There’s no such thing,” says the president of the River Arts District Artists Association (RADA), repeating a bit of wisdom they once received from a mentor during their days as a musical theater major. “It’s preparation met with opportunity.”

Those words became reality when, just three days after Hurricane Helene left Asheville’s low-lying arts district underwater, RADA was granted nonprofit status. Suddenly, all that paperwork became a lifeline for hundreds of artists, studios, and small creative businesses struggling to recover. According to Jeffrey, the funds raised in the storm’s aftermath remain the only significant financial investment in the district to date.

As an artist, an active community advocate, and now a candidate for city council, Jeffrey has seen firsthand how policy decisions impact working artists. Today, they join us to discuss how financial investment and community action shape the River Arts District’s future, the intersection of art and civic life in Asheville, and how themes from our fall exhibition - mortality, memory, and impact - resonate through their art, business, and advocacy.

Today is a very special day. It’s Jennifer’s birthday, and it’s insane to think it’s already been two years together.

We are so so very lucky to have Jennifer on our team. She is truly special and gifted. She even understands the challenges of operating a small business while trying to build a dream, and she is always ready to jump in however and wherever she can.

After the storm, my life was pure chaos. I was left alone in my store, trying to figure out how to move forward while so much of my time was being spent helping rebuild our community. I didn’t know what to do. I just knew I needed to find someone who could help me hold everything together.

I knew the moment Jennifer walked into the shop that she was THE person.

And I don’t say this lightly. Jennifer helped save my dream when we were so close to collapse after the storm. She works her tail off to support what we are building because we believe in each other, and I will forever be grateful for that.

So on her birthday, I want all of you to know, if you don’t already, just how special she is.

Jennifer isn’t only an incredible GM. She is a gifted artist, a creator, a problem solver, and a wonderful friend. She helped me pick up the pieces during one of the hardest chapters of my life and helped us start putting them back together into something even bigger.

Happy birthday, Jennifer. Thank you for believing in me, believing in this crazy dream, and helping make it possible.

I can’t wait to see what we build next. ❤️
