THE COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS — VOL. 4
I had the pleasure of shooting Jelani, co-founder of JoinLinks and one of the people doing the real work behind LA’s organizer and community builder scene.

Jelani’s a New York cat and it shows. He’s direct, self-aware, and doesn’t waste words. Before he was a founder, he was a teacher. And that background never left him. The way he thinks about community is rooted in that same patience and intentionality, meeting people where they are and building from there.

He played cornerback at Cornell, still stays active in team sports, and carries that competitor’s mindset into everything he does. Focused. Accountable. Always prepared.

Through JoinLinks, he’s helped create real infrastructure for organizers and community builders across the city, connecting people to spaces, movements, and each other.

Between shots, he shared what’s kept him motivated through the different chapters of his journey. It was a good reminder that the people building community are usually the ones who’ve been showing up long before anyone was paying attention.

Join Jelani and the JoinLinks community — and plug in.
