Visiting the National Museum of the Philippines - Cebu was a very meaningful experience because it gave me a chance to appreciate our history beyond what we usually learn in school. Seeing the different exhibits made me really understand how important it is to preserve the stories, culture and heritage that have been passed down through generations.

As I explored the museum, I realized that history is not just about remembering dates and events. It is also about understanding how people lived, what they experienced, and how the past helped shape the Philippines we know today. These things may have happened a long time ago, but their importance remains with us.

For me, visiting a museum is a reminder that we should never take our history for granted. As time passes and the world continues to change, we should still make an effort to learn about our roots and appreciate the people and events that came before us. Preserving our heritage allows future generations to understand their identity and learn valuable lessons from the past.

Discovering the Past at the CNU University Museum

Located inside Cebu Normal University’s Main Campus, the CNU University Museum is a place where we can find the history and culture preserved through different collections.

During my visit, one of my favorite parts was seeing the vintage items and old collections displayed inside the museum such as old collections of banknotes, paintings, and the university's uniform throughout the ages. Each and every item felt like a small piece of the past that gives us a glimpse of how people lived and what life was like before. My most favorite was the old piano located at the corner of the museum. It stood out to me because it reminded me that the now old and beat up unplayable piano was also once an instrument for many previous pianists to play on concerts and events.

It made me realize that museums are more than just places that keep old things. They help us understand our history, appreciate our present, and preserve our heritage for future generations.

As we celebrate Museums and Galleries Month 2026 with the theme β€œBridging Divides, Preserving the Present for Tomorrow,” let us take time to appreciate places like the CNU University Museum, where the past continues to connect with the present.

You don't always need a picture of what's inside to appreciate its value. Sometimes, sharing your experience is enough to encourage others to discover it for themselves. πŸ’™
