What a week in Pittsburgh!

Spent time at Randyland and Mattress Factory; caught a Pirates game (and a rare W!) and rode the Duquesne Incline; visited Ohiopyle, Cucumber Falls, and the Natural Water Slides where we opted to float because the water was running fast!

Lots of food! And ice cream! And fun with Abby's relatives, even if we got rained out at Kennywood.

It's definitely worth another trip because there's so much more to see and do. ❤️ taken in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by @jendoesstuff

Happy 5 years/covid anniversary to my happy hours with Chris.

What started as a once off meet-up for drinks in March 2020 when we lived around the corner from each other turned into a meet-up every other week as the months dragged on, evolved into monthly happy hours that still continue to this day.

Socially distanced at first in the alley, we moved locations when Chris moved, and indoors when weather got too cold. I still made the trek down when I moved to Takoma Park later in the year, then to NW DC, and back to NE DC in 2023.

Conversations range from our March Madness brackets to jobs to relationships to religion to book recommendations to whatever else came to mind.

I'm thankful to Jenn and Blue for welcoming me into their house and sharing Chris with me. Cheers to another 5+ years! taken in Washington D. C. by @jendoesstuff

A little weekend getaway in western VA to peep some leaves and get in time on the new gravel bike.

Plenty of burgers, fries, Sheetz grub, and shakes/ice cream, too.

Now, to ride more to justify the post ride refueling splurges.

Thanks to Abby for getting me.. getting me out of my year-long funk, getting out of the house, and getting me back on the bike since my triathlon days 10+ years ago.

Enjoying this ride together.

What a ride.

After 10+ years with Old City, I'm taking a break from CrossFit and from coaching. My last day sporting the red coach's shirt and the ever-present Buff is tomorrow.

The staple attire also included a hoodie or long sleeve shirt and joggers no matter the weather! Gotta keep the ankles and wrists covered so the members stay focused!

Over the years, I've learned so much from so many people at both 810 and 1007. I hoped they picked up a few pointers over the years as well, likely having to pick through the jokes and sarcasm to find a hidden gem.

What started as a DM to Sean through Facebook in 2013, 4 months before opening, led to an opportunity of a lifetime.

Now it's time to take some time for myself after many, many early mornings, and more recently, longer days and some late nights.

TBD on what happens next, but some sleeping in is tops on the list.

🥂 to the future and new beginnings. ❤️ taken in Old City CrossFit by @jendoesstuff

Opening day of deer season has always been a holiday since growing up in Michigan.

About 30 years ago, my dad was invited to deer camp by our neighbor and his family, and he's been with them nearly every year for 2 weeks in November. While cancer slowed him down a bit from 2012-2014, he always made it his goal to get out to camp.

He's out there again this year, but he left his rifle at home. The cancer is back, and the chemo is really slowing him down, but the guys made sure he could spend some time in the woods.

Pictures include him in 2105 a year after his bone marrow transplant, his hunting buddies and a casualty, a recent text exchange, postcards he'd send us over the years, him hanging with the backyard cat, Smudge, and enjoying a pecan pancake. by @jendoesstuff

It has been 5 years since attending a performance at The Kennedy Center. In 2018, Em and I saw Joshua Bell play with the NSO in a tribute to NASA with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg also in attendance.

We returned this past Saturday to Joshua Bell performing, but no RBG in attendance.

Old City CrossFit member and NSO flutist Mat Ross kindly humored me for a photo op after the performance. I was hoping for an autograph as well, but apparently, that's beneath him. 🙄😏 Well it wasn't beneath the Air Force Band that came to my hometown in the 80s! Next time I'm home, I'll look for that program 👍🏼

Hopefully it's not another 5 years between shows. by @jendoesstuff

Our schedules rarely match up, but with the long weekend, I was able to carve out some time with my sister.

Rucked around her usual route, picked up some Jenni's ice cream, visited her garden and the library, and I marveled at how much SW/SE DC has changed since I lived there 2003-2007.

We wrapped up at my place for the night for some celebratory cupcakes and binging on The Last of Us.

We also don't have a lot of pictures together, so we decided to stop by Nats Park to recreate one we took May 15, 2020, when we'd meet there to walk up/down the stairs, etc. I'm wearing the same hat, but it has faded quite a bit over the years.

The first weekend of August has been our traditional Cousin's Weekend for years. And this year was another success.

Ice cream, lakeside reading and napping, the traditional menu with only a few tweeks, a surprise visit from a kitty, fires, breakfast, cards, swimming and drinking, and family.

This cottage has been in the family since the 50s, where my dad spent time growing up, and it continues to be a place of relaxation and good memories. taken in Sand Lake, Michigan by @jendoesstuff

10 years ago, I got lucky.

The opportunity to take over an existing dog walking/pet care business came up in April 2013. I took a chance with my partner at the time, and I quit my job as a contractor. I wasn't going anywhere, so I figured 'what the heck', and started walking dogs.
.
The first picture with Buckley and Caya, Preston (Colin), Cooper, and Orion, was my first official walk on June 3rd, 2013. I've put in a lot of miles since then and have played with many cats, as well as taken thousands of pictures.

It's been hard work and rewarding work, and I never expected to still be doing it for this long! I'm not sure I have another 10 years left in me, but I'll enjoy the years I have left.

Two years ago, we had our first socially distanced happy hour at the start of covid. We shared an alley with our respective basement apartments, which made it easy to pull up a camping chair.

Two years later, and now 8 miles apart, we still keep the tradition alive. What was once every other Thursday or Friday, now is once a month as schedules allow. It takes a little more planning, but it's worth the time.

Always a good time and good conversation with Chris. 👍🏻 taken in Washington D. C. by @jendoesstuff

We are nearing the end of National Professional Pet Sitters Week. And as a middle child, I'm used to being ignored. 😏🤷‍♀️

I started caring for animals in June 2013 when the opportunity to buy an existing dog walking/pet sitting business came up. I'm coming up on nearly 9 years of pounding the pavement with pups, and giving head scritches to kitties. It's not what I thought I'd be doing after going to college for a math/statistics degree, yet here I am.

And I hardly think of myself as a professional, especially when I get frustrated with tangled leashes, unruly dogs, invoices 😑, and lots of time in my car and on my feet. These pups got me through the pandemic, they got me out of the house, they gave me a sense of purpose.

I have a few OGs left from the previous owners, but most of them are 'mine'. I enjoy what I do even though I don't think I'm good at it. But I hope to keep going a few more years.
