My love letter to boxing.
But like, in a cool, non cheesy way.

I don’t know why it’s hard for me to give you so much credit but you really did change my life. You aren’t the only thing that changed my life, but you were the first step.

I started boxing in 2015 because I had a lot of anger and a lot of resentment and pain and trauma, etc etc …that I didn’t know how to process. I would unleash my pain on anyone in my path and was incredibly defensive, so hitting shit became a better outlet than my loved one’s hearts.

I didn’t know what self-care meant. I didn’t know what self-love meant. I also would 😒 if anyone said those words, but little did I know YOU became those for me. You helped me get sober in 2017 and you kept me sober through 2020…

When the world stopped, so many of my new tools stopped with it and I was headed down another very scary path, still not drinking but very alone and very depressed. But you found me again in new spaces. Outdoors, in parks and with friends and other fighters. With nothing else to do, I started to take it a little more seriously. I started training 6-7 days a week, sparring regularly. I wanted to be untouchable.

And then in 2021, an opportunity came for me to coach. I NEVER wanted to monetize you, but this opportunity presented itself and ya gurl needed cash. My new boxing buddy, who turned into my best friend, who turned into my husband told me to give it a chance. That I would be great at it. So I did. And I found a new way to love you. By giving you back.

And here we are. You gave me safe spaces and family, and now I get to be that for others. To be angry, to rage, to cry, to laugh, to grow, to change, to find community, to find love, to be queer, to be you!

The pain that happened to me - that happens to so many people - we did not deserve. And even though it comes up, again and again, from gov “officials” in “power” or from f*king POS boys at IVY schools or small micro aggressions in every day life - I have you. To beat the f*king shit out of mother f*kers when needed or just show someone how to throw a proper 1-2.

Boxing gave me my life back.

I designed and made this fitted corset dress for @jenetastclair’s wedding. She wanted the idea of a corset and chemise as the wedding dress to show off her amazing figure.
