And then I didn’t play it for like 3 years 😂

But the ukulele is becoming my absolute favorite instrument! I keep telling myself I need to play my guitar a little bit, but I’m having too much fun with the Uke (plus it’s way easier to travel with 🙃)

This song of mine features waves from Lake Superior ~ these are the actual waves I recorded for the song. I think it’s pretty cool I can credit Nature ~ the world’s most original artist!

The swim you almost skipped. The sunset you almost missed. The ordinary summer day when you almost stayed home and then it somehow lives in your memory for years.

It’s why I started putting moments like this into my songs. Because I can come back to them again and again. I hope you will too ~ after all, life is a moment 🎶

This song was inspired by a trip around the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior a couple of summers ago, when we took the boat up to Stockton Island and then all around to Michigan, Hermit, and Madeline Island, before going back “home” to our favorite harbor.

Yesterday we went back to Stockton ~ and this is exactly what “Driftwood Dreams” is meant to feel like.

I just love this part of the song 🎸🎶

When I brought this concept to Allister Quade @pinnaclepointestudios, we thought we might stick with just acoustic guitar for this one, but I loved what he did with “Driftwood Dreams,” so I asked him to add some electric guitar. He said, “OK, and I’ll add some swells too.”

I think he nailed it! I absolutely love how this guitar solo sounds at the end and I also love the swells 🌊😃

Lake Superior never ceases to inspire or amaze me ~ and so many of my lyrics are rooted in this lake’s natural beauty and healing power. It’s the greatest Great Lake for many reasons ;)

My new song “Superior Blue” is streaming now on all platforms! This one was really fun to write and produce. I wanted it to feel coastal, islandy, and light ~ like a perfect summer day on the Big Lake 💙 It even features Lake Superior waves I recorded this summer!

The wildfires burning in Canada and Minnesota are causing the worst air quality I have ever experienced in northern Wisconsin. It’s a blatant reminder that something is very wrong… and many people are left wondering what they can do to help.

Here’s a few ways you can help support the regions impacted by these severe wildfires:

💧Provide fresh water for birds and displaced wildlife, as water sources are critical when smoke and heat disrupt their natural habitats.

🔥 Don’t burn: As much as I love a good bonfire, campfires when it’s this hot and this dry are just not a good idea.

🌿 Reduce indoor pollution: Avoid adding to the poor air quality inside your home. Refrain from frying or broiling food, burning candles, or using gas/wood stoves during heavy smoke days. Get yourself an air purifier — I got a couple a few years ago and they help a lot. Many utilities and stores have rebates for energy efficient ones!

💸 Donate to relief organizations: Support recognized non-profit organizations working on the frontlines—like the American Red Cross or the Canadian Red Cross—to provide emergency shelter and resources for evacuated families. The United Way of Northeastern Minnesota is collecting donations to support wildfire response and recovery efforts as fires and hazardous smoke continue affecting the region.

☔️💃🏻KEEP DOING YOUR RAIN DANCE! This region needs rain, and a lot of it. Keep dancing for those April-type rains right now.

The water and wind was a little wilder than I expected last night. I couldn’t get my paddle board to cooperate to stay focused on the sunset 🌞

But this is the place that Driftwood Dreams is about and I think my new favorite thing is taking my ukulele out paddling with me 🎶🌊🎶

Is there anywhere better to sing than by the water?
