The 2016 vs now trend but make it Percy Jackson. Back then I was a new mom reading a new series I loved. Now we’re still here and it helped my daughter see herself in a way I couldn’t yet explain. Stories matter. Especially when kids recognize themselves inside them.

Meet our family!

New year and some new friends here so I thought a good time to re-introduce ourselves… but make it sitcom.

I’m Jennifer! And these are my favorite people/pets in the world. My husband and I met 17.5 years ago and we’ve been married for 17 of those years. We have three cool kids who are totally different from each other but if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that the more we respect each other’s differences, the more we can love each other, and ourselves for who we are.

Friends, why does it feel like two weeks ago we were watching her run off the bus to hug her baby sister and now we’re here? My brain can’t compute. Your niece got dressed up for Homecoming and I got to sneak in a few pics before the dance. She looked absolutely stunning. I told her this may be my favorite dress she’s bought. Aunties, are we ok?

Rise and shout! 💙 drove up to TCU to watch our BYU Cougars. The TCU fans we met and interacted with were so kind to us and to all the BYU fans who came from around Texas. It was refreshing to be surrounded by so much kindness and fellowship with other Christians. Last week a little boy came into school crying and a teacher asked if he wanted to pet Shuri. He did and I told him he could also give her a hug if he wanted. I watched as Shuri leaned into his hug and patiently waited as he took a minute to calm down. That moment summed up why we do this. When I first set out to train Shuri to be a therapy dog it was lowkey my subtle way to pop in once a week at Jayda’s high school and say hi to her at lunch. But I’ve wound up loving watching as Shuri brings smiles to faces at hospitals, community events, fire stations, elementary schools and high schools at all over our community. Today we celebrated her 50th visit. It’s a goal I wanted to achieve before her 2nd birthday next month. This has been such a fun journey that’s reminded me I can still make the most random, ambitious goals and in them, find so much unexpected joy. I am excited to see what the next 50 visits bring.

She’s baaaaack! After a lot of thought and prayer, Jayda decided to take her sophomore year off of cheer and though I was a little sad, and nervous about the decision (would she regret it? would she return?!) I understood this was *her* life, not mine. Now, looking back at that choice I can see that it was absolutely the right one. I went to her games the last two weeks and I couldn’t believe the huge smile on her face. Genuine joy. She looked at me and mouthed “I’m having fun” and my mama heart felt so much gratitude. I think if we focus our energy on things that bring the light out in us, we can all make the world a little brighter. And sometimes a little break can help us do just that. Happy to see her shining her light on Friday nights!

It may not be California or Florida, but the Texas coast has a vibe of its own. And considering we’ve lived here 18 years, it was time for us to make a trip. The kids added “go to the beach” on our summer bucket list and the last week of summer break we finally made it happen. I’m trying not to regret the fact that we didn’t do this sooner. That we only have one more summer with all 3 of our kiddos under our roof. I’m collecting as many memories and moments of joy as I can from this season of life. So better late than never on this beach trip. Next summer we will remember beach chairs 😆 taken in Port Aransas, Texas by @jenniferborget
