The Wainwright-McGarrigle holiday saga is returning to New York City’s Town Hall on December 6 for “Manhattan for the Holidays,” continuing a beloved family tradition benefitting The Kate McGarrigle Fund and Folk Cancer: The Kate McGarrigle Project.

Joined by special guests Cyndi Lauper, Alice Phoebe Lou, Jenni Muldaur, Justin Vivian Bond, Mario Cantone, Loudon Wainwright III, Lucy Wainwright Roche, and more. All in honor of our mother, Kate McGarrigle, and to help raise money in the fight against cancer.

The only autograph I ever asked for was from Dolly Parton. My mother covered Tennessee Mountain Home in 1973. And we were big fans. I remember seeing her on the Porter Wagner show at Eric Von Schmidt's house with everybody gathered around the TV. I was 5 years old but it's still a crystal clear memory. Coat of many Colors made such a huge impression on me as a little girl that I learned all the lyrics and put grapefruits in my shirt and would sing it around the house. Even her corniest song "me and Little Andy" was believable and something I could not get out of my head. A once in a lifetime voice with an agelic purity and at once, a deep soulful wisdom. Her voice still gives me goosebumps or brings me to tears. Sometimes both. RIP beautiful Dolly. by @jennimuldaur

Mary has left the studio. 💛💚💜💙 She was one with her art and the most colorful, curious, meditative, contemplative, deep, soulful, and kind humans I have ever encountered. Thank God she left us with her work and playful take on colors and shapes and how it all fits together in the universe. I remember when she first built this studio. To sit in her chairs, to sip out of her cups, to look at her work, to wrap yourself in all its forms, a lamp, a backpack, a scarf was to know Mary. We shared San Francisco where she taught at Mills College. We shared a lot of history and we took many trips together to London and to Marin County. I quote her often- Here's a few of the beautiful things she said. "Always have the best friends, listen to the best music and eat the best food." "There's no linear time", "always be a class act" and when I would tell her my woes, she would simply say "oh Jenni that sounds like a song"🎶 . She loved music and surf culture. And we all know how Mary loved men! She swam at the dolphin club in San Francisco, which is no small feat. She was a swimmer. 🏊‍♀️ she had the best outdoor shower known to man. “In 2008, we started doing a radio show on Sirius Radio, New York Shuffle, out of Lou’s apartment. We did it there, rather than a studio, because the magic of those shows was, we forgot we were doing a radio show. For half of the show, we played music that we loved, and the other half was music we hadn’t heard before. We built the show with the idea it was against the record business philosophy of two great songs and the rest filler. No artist we have any respect for puts filler on their record. So we’d get a new album by an artist and hit shuffle, play whatever came up. It was discovery for us.
