You never know the last time you’ll see someone.

I woke up this morning to the heartbreaking news that John “Jammin” Collins had passed away. Like so many people in Detroit, I sat there in disbelief.

I’ve known John for decades.

We’ve shared the decks together more times than I could count, in clubs, at events, and in spaces where the music always seemed to mean a little more because he was there. I loved watching him play. I loved our conversations. I loved those random three way calls with Stacy Hotwaxx Hale where we’d end up talking about music, life, and whatever else came up. John was one of those rare people who didn’t need to be the loudest voice in the room. He was grounded. Quiet. Powerful. A true student and teacher of the culture.

As I sat with the news today, I realized I remember the last time we saw each other with perfect clarity.

It was the closing night at Spot Lite.

That night was emotional for all of us. @rouladavid created something special there, a place that became home for so many of us, a place where friendships were built and music connected people in ways that are hard to explain.

As the night came to an end, John looked at me and said, “Come here. Let’s take a picture.”

The three of us, John, Stacy, and I, stood together for one last photo.

Then he gave me a hug.

None of us knew that moment would become our last.

It’s so simple Tell people you love them. Hug your friends a little longer. Take the picture. Stay for one more conversation. We never know which ordinary moment will quietly become a memory we’ll hold onto forever.

Rest in power, John.

Thank you for everything you gave to Detroit, to house music, to techno, and to generations of DJs and music lovers who learned simply by watching you do what you loved. Your legacy isn’t just in the records you played. It’s in the people you inspired, the community you helped build, and the love you left behind.

My heart is with John’s family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

We’ll carry your legacy forward.

Tonight I’ll play my last record at Spotlight Detroit.

Five years ago, I walked into that room for the first time and immediately knew I wanted to have a residency there.

I got my wish.

Over the last five years, I’ve played countless nights there. Nights filled with music, laughter, connection, and pure joy.

But tonight isn’t about saying goodbye to a club.

It’s about saying goodbye to a place that made people feel like they belonged.

Roula built something incredibly rare.

It didn’t matter who you were, where you came from, how old you were, who you loved, or what language you spoke.

When you walked through those doors, you were home.

That kind of culture doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens because someone chooses people over everything else.

I’ve been lucky enough to share that booth with my soul sister Stacey Hale, and every single night has been a reminder of why I fell in love with music in the first place.

Thank you, Roula.

Thank you for believing that dance floors can build community.

Thank you for giving so many of us a place to express ourselves, to connect, and to simply be.

Tonight will be bittersweet.

But mostly, it will be filled with gratitude.

Let’s dance one more time. ❤️

May 2nd, I stood on stage emceeing the 30th anniversary of EO Detroit… helping tell the story of a chapter that has meant so much to so many of us.

A room full of entrepreneurs.
Builders.
Dreamers.
People who quietly carried this community for 30 years.

There was something really beautiful about looking out into that room and feeling the history in it.

Still sitting with this one.

Motherhood changed everything.

As a young girl arriving in Detroit from the Soviet Union, I watched my mother rebuild a life from nothing but courage, grit, and sacrifice. I didn’t understand it then, but I carry her strength with me every single day now.

And now somehow… I get to be the mother.

To Ethan, you made me a mom first and cracked my heart open in the most beautiful way.

To the twins, you brought chaos, laughter, surrender, and a whole new level of love into our home.

And to Raisa, thank you for building this beautiful life with me. For carrying the weight with me. For the sleepless nights, the endless logistics, the teamwork, the patience, the sacrifices, and the love that exists behind the scenes of raising a family. None of this happens alone.

Motherhood is exhausting and sacred.
Humbling and beautiful.
Loud and deeply meaningful.

Today I’m just grateful.
For my mother.
For my children.
For this beautiful circus we built together. @directorraisa

Jenny Feterovich @jennyfeter wrote something about Loving Conflict that I can't stop thinking about.
