🥹We’re so so excited to announce that we are officially part of Season 14 of @StartUpTVShow!

Earlier this year, the START UP team came to Charmy’s Market to tell our story, and we’re finally getting ready to share it with you.

Season 14 launches nationally October 4 (TODAY!) on WORLD Channel and begins streaming on PBS.org and the PBS app.

Here’s the first look at the new season.

There is absolutely no way the breadth and depth of your influence could ever, ever fit neatly inside these little instagram boxes @johnjammincollins.official , friend. IG could never ever. FB wishes it could.

You are proof that, at the end of the day, it’s real live human contact that is everlasting, timeless. Technology has come, gone, morphed, returned, and changed again. Yet, it’s you who reminds us that it is US who can put Soul in the Machine.

The patience you had with this high-strung young 20-something woman determined to learn this indie music biz! LOL. Phew, I was a lot.

Your stern grace taught me how to move. It’s how I learned what *resistance* — not resilience — really looks like. Your generosity with history and education helped to make me a knowledgeable steward of this music and culture.

You were NOT going to leave this Earth before enough people KNEW what Detroit brought to the world. 🌍 What YOU brought to this world. What you brought to all of us for whom Detroit Techno Changed My Life.

You spent more than a decade chairing the Detroit Arts & Entertainment Commission, working TIRELESSLY to present official City awards and proclamations to OTHERS. To recognize SO many artists and leaders and entrepreneurs in our community who DESERVE their flowers. It was YOU. It was YOU who worked for that.

I have been HONORED over the last 6 months to have been quietly working with you on a Cultural Economy Plan at City Hall, which I am of course devastated we won’t be able to finish together, but is now one I am even more DETERMINED to see come to life, in your name.

But most of all John, you allowed me to be your friend. I will dearly miss trying to make you laugh, and the warm yet stoic sound of your voice.

I’ll miss you trying to duck off The Donna Train before there’s no more local stops til sunrise. LOL

I am sorrow, but I am FULL of gratitude that I got to know you in this life, and I PROMISE you, your life’s work lives on in me and all of us. I will be calling your name for a long, long, long time.

I hope you are sipping Chardonnay on your favorite patio waiting on dinner to be served right now.

As you would say, Love Ya! JC 🕊️

There is a difference between thanking someone and letting them know they mattered.

At Entrepreneurs’ Organization, @jennyfeter and Wendy Clark championed the idea of “I See You” as a way to recognize members serving in leadership. I carried that idea into my second year chairing EO’s Marketing and Partnerships Portfolio.

I wrote personalized messages for incoming, returning and outgoing members, as well as our professional staff, because I wanted each person to hear exactly how their presence had made a difference.

A thank-you acknowledges the work. “I see you” acknowledges the person behind it.

There comes a moment in every dream where you have to make a decision.

Do you keep waiting for the perfect opportunity…
or do you create one?

After the funding for Changing Tourism fell through, I had a choice. I could keep waiting for another opportunity, or I could take the next step myself.

One thing I’ll always be grateful for is the people who believed in this vision early on. A special thank you to Arcadius Productions and BK Creative for helping shape the project, strengthening the pitch, and believing in Changing Tourism. Sometimes one team believing in your dream gives you the courage to keep believing too.

Episode 5 of Building Changing Tourism is live.

🎬 Tomorrow, I’ll share the biggest financial risk I took to bring this dream to life.

Have you ever had to bet on yourself?
