A last minute decision to make a reservation and the next day I found myself remote, alone and solo out on the West Coast Trail, a 75km rugged coastal route on Vancouver Islands West Coast. I’m no stranger to this place as many of you know, the challenging terrain holds a very special place in my heart. I’ve guided fast packs on it over the years, challenged myself on FKT’s, enjoyed it at cruise control pace and ran it purely as a point to point long run. I think this was my 12th time on foot? @normhann and I have also SUP’ed it which was an awesome adventure in itself. With perfect tides presenting, I couldn’t say no to a 2 day/ 1 night adventure. I’ve been needing some time on my feet as I work through an irritating hip issue and running was not in the cards. Starting at 11am at Gordon River I tackled the route SOBO and made it to Cribs in time for dinner just as the sun was setting. With the hardest part of the trail now behind me, the following day was 42km, crossing Nitinat and onwards to Pachena. Met some great people along the way but mostly just enjoyed my own quiet time. Nice to see the various changes along the route (for the better or worse) and see some of my favourite wildlife on the beaches including bears and whales.
I keep getting asked to guide it fastpack style again so maybe @runbcadventures should bring it back next year????

Setting the tone for what I hope my next year around the sun will hold! BIRTHDAY week provided a chance to disconnect, reconnect and do the things that I love the most. Taking with me so many positives from the past year, leaving behind the things that no longer serve and setting goals for how I want 46 to look. Thankyou everyone for thinking of me and sending so many kind messages. Onto a NEW year, the intention is to make it the best yet.

My favourite day of the year has now come and gone. Racing the @mindovermountain adventure race looked a little different this time around. @normhann and I have enjoyed doing this event with the Kman since he was 7 years old. But due to hockey commitments, he wasn’t able to join us (omg he’s almost 13!) We were wishing we had his speedy legs to set the pace after the paddle. An awesome race course was delivered and the volunteers were exceptional. Thanks to friends and my mom for helping us manage all the moving parts so we could be out there together. (1st co-ed sporty, 2nd OA).

The #momar holds a very special place in my heart. I’ve been racing these since I was 20 years old, it’s where the sport of adventure racing ignited my soul and what would lead to decades of global racing from that point forward. I enjoyed the years of course directing for @bryantasaka to put on Momar Squamish back in the day and have loved racing in every and any configuration possible. The Momar is for EVERYONE so just say yes and come experience it.

ADVENTURE is everywhere and sometimes it just takes a good friend who is up for cramming what would be a 4 day trip into 1 mega big day in order to bring the experience to life! High up on our must do list for way too long has been the Sayward Lake Chain Canoe Route - a 50km ish link up of over 13 lakes with varying degrees and types of portages in between. Seizing the perfect Fall day we shoved off at 6:30am and arrived back to the parked truck 11hrs later. So much fun moving fast, light and with aggression on the portage sections. We caught sight of an elk herd drinking from a lake as the sun was rising and ranked and unranked our favourite lakes and most despised portages as we ticked along. It was like being in adventure race mode all day but without any pressure. Pretty sure our canoe tripping list just grew in length as this was a fantastic day.

Doing what I LOVE in the mountains this weekend! A pleasure to share the @29029official experience with all the amazing people who said YES to doing something uncomfortable for 36hrs. This stuff fires me up. Extra special to be back in these mountains, love this place, it will always feel like home.

Colombia, on foot.
Not to lie on a beach.
Not to check off tourist attractions.

But to use the fitness you’ve built and turn it into an adventure.

THIS October I’ll be heading back to Colombia with @exploreterraventure for a point-to-point journey through Antioquia — historic trails, jungle ridgelines, remote villages, incredible coffee….all delivered in the most authentic way.

You can run it or trek it. Different paces, same journey.

And somewhere between the long days on your feet, the coffee stops, the heat, the laughter and the inevitable moments of “what did I sign up for?” something happens…

You stop thinking about training.

You’re simply living the adventure your fitness has made possible.

Colombia has a way of getting under your skin. The people. The culture. The landscape. The warmth. I fell in love with it the first time I went — and now I count the days until I return.

So if you’ve been looking for a reason to take your fitness somewhere new…

Come with me.

October 18–24, 2026.

I love riding bikes. I love gravel. I love mountains. I even sometimes sort of love the road. I love early morning sun rise rides. I love headlamps on the trail in the Winter. I love the places it takes me, the adventures with friends and the balance it gives my running. I contemplated this morning how lucky I am to live in a place that offers it all!

BIKES…they are awesome.

This October, we’ll spend a week running trails that were once part of our team’s everyday lives.

As children, these paths led them to school, to neighboring villages, and into the mountains above their homes.

Soon, they will lead us into a side of Colombia few visitors ever get to experience. Apply now or learn more through the link in our bio before spots fill.

Turning disappointment into something meaningful is one of the biggest lessons endurance sports has taught me.
.
Not long into my @fatdog120 training, I started dealing with some hip pain. It forced me to hit the brakes on my mileage and address it. As I started running again, it became clear that I’m just not where I want to be, fitness-wise, to race 120 miles the way I know I’m capable of.

At this stage, no injury is worth pushing through. Could I make it to the finish? Probably. But that’s not the experience I was chasing.
.
I’m definitely disappointed not to be lining up in a few weeks to test myself, but I’m also incredibly grateful to still be part of one of the best weekends of trail racing in Canada. I have a bunch of athletes taking on different distances, and now I’ll be pacing one of my top runners. I can’t wait to share some miles with him in the beautiful mountains of Manning Park.
.
Maybe I’m exactly where I’m meant to be this Summer? Supporting others, sharing the experience, and giving back to a sport that’s given me so much over the last 25 years. The finish lines will always be there, but being part of this community in a different way holds so much value to me personally.
.
Stoked to cheer you all on if you said YES to FatDog this year. Like I always say to my athletes: “Be Gritty because Gritty is what will get it done.”
