Today, in @literaryhub , an open letter from Jewish writers to the @jewishbookcouncil . We hope they will respond with concrete action that meets this moment - any Jewish-identified writer is encouraged to sign, and we hope you’ll share widely! It’s long past time for our Jewish literary institutions to prioritize liberation for *all,* and to meaningfully include narratives and writers fighting and speaking out for Palestinian liberation.

Link to sign at the bottom of the letter, which can be found at https://lithub.com/an-open-letter-to-the-jewish-book-council-from-a-concerned-group-of-jewish-writers/ by @jenwgilmore

Pretty delighted to have a piece of short fiction in the April Harper’s. Novels take years; turns out stories do too. Thank you to Chris Beha who accepted the story and edited with such care. by @jenwgilmore

Join us on Fri. 10/16 from 8-9 pm for a Conversation with Lee Upton hosed by Jennifer Gilmore. Upton is a local literary treasure-known best for her poetry. But she's recently been publishing critically acclaimed novels as well.

With her newest novel, Tabitha,Stay Up, a sequel to the Thurber Humor Writing Award semi-finalist, Tabitha, Get Up, launching in September I thought it would be a great opportunity to talk to her about writing in many genres, humor writing, the writing process and all aspects of developing her singular and unforgettable characters. by @jenwgilmore

It is truly wild the way some white cis men will convince themselves of just about anything. These are just some of the fun responses I’ve gotten in response to my review of Woody Allen’s debut novel in The Forward. The last two slides are excerpts from the longest apologist email of all time. Reading Allen’s novel made me think of the corrosive 90’s culture that groomed and brutalized so many of us. Sorry, dudes, if it hurts you to hear it. by @jenwgilmore

This is a Claire Messud appreciation post. Talking with her is always a tonic for the mind and/but talking about her newest novel, This Strange Eventful History (just published by @w.w.norton), was a balm for any artistic heart. The novel is extraordinary. I hope you’ll all read it so we can discuss how it was built and why and how we write about the past to look at the present and what we all can do to be as art forward as Claire Messud. (Also please just look at that punim on slide 3!) Thanks to @adamhersteinlanger @jdforward for being the best editor there is. by @jenwgilmore

Putting this on the grid. I wish every reader knew what went into our books. What we have to give up to write them and what we have to face to finish them. Writers are not replaceable. taken in Black Mirror by @jenwgilmore

On seeing Taylor Swift with my ten year old…”As I watch the girls weeping and singing and laughing and screaming around us I can’t shake the tender metaphor that we are all rooms of a house. How will any of us be all the rooms, all our eras? All at once?” (Yep link in bio) by @jenwgilmore
