Down in the dust. Sun beats you down. Cacti turn purple to avoid sunburns. Windswept and seldom kept, one person’s trash is another’s artifact. Water is life but shade allows for retention. Life is buried in the sand.

The sand isn’t much different than water. Waves of wind speak with the sand where you see, aeolian footprints of the sky. It flows and permeates the most impenetrable of places. It can hold on to a lizard’s gentle tracks dancing across for millions of years or cover the violence of tire tracks in just a few minutes. The sands are just larger rocks broken down and ready to rebuild into a new form.

This spring in the Mojave was pretty great in a bunch of ways! I was glad to have the chance to take lots of photos while out there. Though I’ve been ‘back’ for a while it can be tough to find the time to make posts and such. Editing these was cool and I’ve been enjoying taking more photos lately. Maybe time for a real camera rather than just the ole iPhone? Feel free to drop a line if you have opinions. Either way, I hope ya like these.

There is a Jay who let me take over his garage for a few weeks. I’ve been wanting to try pendulum painting for a while now. Thanks to @guitarizona for sharing your space. Many variables make for lots of trial and extra error. I can see how this could be much more complex than I’m making it from the length of the string to how it’s tied. Also I’m using old house paint from the leftover materials store. Overall I just wanted to try it and I’m glad I’ve had a chance to give it a go! Next time I live somewhere permanently I’d like to see about having a more permanent setup for this sort of thing. The stuff that came out of it is kinda cool but the process was really fun. 🤠 taken in Bisbee, Arizona by @jephickell

A few nights ago I had the chance to take part in a scorpion survey. It may have been the coolest survey I’ve been part of! It was a good test of my chopstick skills with a moving target. 🎯 Saw a bunch of scorps, a blue death feigning beetle, and a sidewinder that said hi as I was already past him. When doing night work with black lights, why not glow?

(Just Don’t) Waste Today
I forget how long ago I wrote this. Probably started it around 2012/13. I remember having the first verse and chords in a notebook for years though. Eventually circled back and got the second two verses written down. That was probably around 2016. I’ve always liked playing this one and want to release a studio version of it at some point. It was written from a place of embracing ignorance. Just because I don’t think something is real or I have no knowledge of its existence doesn’t mean that it can’t still have an effect on me. There are plenty of interactions in the cosmos that have shaped life as we know it and we will never have any idea about them. Anyway, I hope you like the song. I think this is my first time putting it out anywhere electronic.

I’ve been enjoying putting tunes up over the past few months. I haven’t really done it in the past but after writing songs for a long time I figured it’s time to at least have a record of some of them. Got any covers you’d want me to try? No guarantees but happy to push the ole comfort zone a little. :-)

Spring in the desert. Old things stay and the new becomes known, knew by no one by noon. Always a bad time to try reading a mind. Thoughtless wisdom. Pollen releases chemicals that changes all beings crossing the fragrance. Waking up to eat and sleep until the fall. While you wander you wonder if you’re too far yonder to pivot and ponder. A mess of feathers and an unhatched egg. Abandoned to bake or because it had baked? It will all be gone soon for the sake of someone’s state of the art automatic pre programmable coffee maker designed for single use cups, carried in single use bags, bagged by single use employees at a nearly obsolete 25 year old strip mall. Demolish the desert that no one calls home except those that do. The breeze cools you and the wind roasts you. A little shade goes a long way. A cholla is a death trap for most and a songbirds sanctuary. The sharpest knife is dull to the smallest viewer. Wise and thoughtless, this is the desert daze of these desert days.

Written on a trip in Thailand after I cut my finger and staying in a beach house with some friends. The house was made of rock and built around a boulder so that’s where stone house comes from. Like most of my tunes, after a while words just kinda inserted themselves. Sometimes they don’t make sense at the time but sounds good and then later out I figure out what they mean. Kinda weird but it happens. Lots of fun to play this one. We released this on @letrebuchet ‘s Spotify last year. Check it out if you want to hear the super rockin version!
