The inaugural Dance Hall of Fame ceremony was held in December 2025, at the Glorya Kaufman Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. This new institution honors pioneering legends and innovators who have profoundly influenced the art of dance.
The event was a long-overdue celebration of dance’s greatest contributors, recognizing those who have defined and advanced the industry. The first class of inductees honored ten icons of dance: Alvin Ailey, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, Misty Copeland, Bob Fosse, Martha Graham, Gene Kelly, Kenny Ortega, Jerome Robbins, and Twyla Tharp.

Honorees were presented with a limited-edition “Music is Love” crystal heart, originally crafted by Lalique in collaboration with Sir Elton John in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Here is the heart presented to honor inductee Jerome Robbins. It was accepted by Allen Greenberg (President of The Jerome Robbins Foundation and a Trustee of The Robbins Rights Trust). Our thoughts go out tonight to the family of Chita Rivera, the legendary dancer, singer, actress, and writer. The original Anita in ‘West Side Story,’ an inspiration to generations of performers, and a friend to the Jerome Robbins Foundation. We shall miss her wit, generosity, talent, and spirit.
