And so the burgundy obsession continues … So excited to share the first freestanding Waves desk with drawers 🤗 Such a big fan of this color combination… I love it when a client dares to make bold choices 🙌

This set was made for an absolute dream of a home, lovingly furnished by @studio__alter for @defamiliepastorie .. When my furniture finds its way into literal dream spaces, I feel incredibly lucky to play a small part in them 💛

Photos taken at my home before delivery.

Would you dare to go bold with color? 👀

Confession time… and I could use your thoughts.

I’m actually a bit nervous sharing this. Maybe it’s too much, maybe I’m whining… but here we go..

I have a bit of a conflicted relationship with this platform. On the one hand, I’m incredibly grateful. Instagram is basically the reason Studio Jes Iken exists. When people ask how customers find me, the honest answer is 99% through here 🙌

So you would think I spend a lot of time on posting, right? Well… not really. Preparing posts is probably the single thing I postpone the most. And the longer I wait, the bigger the threshold becomes 😆

In many ways I’m super impulsive, but when it comes to Instagram I suddenly overthink everything. Every word, every image… until I just get stuck. And I’m stuck more often than I’d like to admit.

Last Sunday we were visiting a friend and he read one of my captions and said, “Did you write this? I couldn’t even get these words out of my mouth.” Brutally honest, which I actually love, but it did make me wonder… am I sugarcoating things too much here?

Would it be better if I showed up a bit more rough around the edges, like I am in real life too?

So I’m curious. Do any of you recognize this? And if you do, what helped you find your balance?

And also… am I being too open right now? Or is it okay to share this side of things here?

Photos are completely unrelated btw… other than that I’m kind of opening a drawer…… 😆 taken in Oegstgeest by @jes_iken

Little shelves are having a moment over here… 💛

I’ve noticed more and more of them finding their way into your homes lately and I’m so happy about it. Such a small piece, but such a nice way to create a little space for the things you love. As part of a gallery wall, it gives you room to showcase objects you want to show off.. and makes it easy to switch things up whenever you feel like it.

This Cloud Shelf is finished in Nice.. a pigmented linseed oil that gives the pine plywood a soft wash of colour while keeping all that stunning grain visible.

Featuring a tiny bit of luck from @het.kleijne.droomhuis 🍀💚

Something new is taking shape! ✨
For Dutch Design Week, the three of us, @jes_iken , @meetmeatthewall.wallpaper wall and illustrator @aniekbartels , are bringing our different worlds together in a new project: MAKE ROOM.

Together, we explore how design can influence the way children play, think and develop. By combining furniture, illustration, colour and interior design, we’re creating a space that encourages children to play, imagine and make it their own, while inviting grown-ups to see their surroundings from a child’s perspective.

You’ll find MAKE ROOM at @piet_hein_eek in Eindhoven during @dutchdesignweek Week.

Come find us, have a look around and make some room of your own. See you there! taken in Piet Hein Eek by @jes_iken

Drooling over the chunky, buttery Isle desk 🤤 I still can’t get over this color and texture… Kind of feels like sunshine bottled into a desk… So awkward typing this… but also: sorry not sorry 😆

This shot was part of my first @calore.studio co-shoot together with @meetmeatthewall.wallpaper , @madam_mien_vintage @doinggoods & @lxmatten …Proof that when creative brands come together, magic happens 🔥

Fresh from the workshop ✨ and I’m so excited to share this with you… Yesterday I delivered the very first Waves corner desk. Custom made for a client with impeccable taste if you ask me… 🙌

She went for the ripple shelf in pine treated with @linolie.dk and I couldn’t have been more excited when I first heard that she decided to go for this.

And now seeing it in real life… The oil somehow makes the wood look like actual ripples in water… I didn’t even fully realize it until I put the little boat on top and suddenly everything clicked

Safe to say I’m a little obsessed with this combination of colours and materials 😅 what do you think??? So curious to hear from you…

I didn’t set out to design one of my bestsellers… I just wanted somewhere to hide the Lego 😅

We have three of these storage heroes at home and honestly, they earn their place every single day 🙌

At the end of the day, it’s where all the stuff you don’t want to see disappears… The toy cars find a home, and the living room slowly starts to feel like ours again…

A little less chaos. A little more calm.

And while I originally designed them as storage, they’ve become so much more than that. The wheels make them easy to move around and the lid is strong enough to sit on, so they often end up being part of the play itself too 😊

There’s something about this palette that makes me feel so good…
Maybe it’s the buttery yellow that reminds me of my childhood bedroom. Or maybe it’s the tiny pops of red that give it just enough spark.

Either way, I can’t stop looking at it ☺️

And apparently you feel it too… because butter yellow has been flying out lately 💛 is it just me, or is this the happiest color?

Sometimes I think I design for my younger self too.

A reminder that creativity matters.
That playfulness matters.
That making things, imagining things & seeing the world differently is valuable too.

Maybe even more valuable than always trying to fit in or “do things right”✨

Who’s with me here?
