Join me on Saturday, October 3 for Aesthetic Inheritance: Art, Archive, and African American Life, a dynamic symposium bringing together scholars, artists, and cultural workers to explore African American art, archives, memory, and historical documentation. I will be presenting on Overstand’s (@ovr.stand) “Lofi Might Save America” tape.

The symposium will begin with an opening plenary at the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum (@bannekerdouglasstubmanmuseum) on October 1, followed by two days of programming at Bowie State University (@bowiestateuniversity) on October 2 and 3. Hope to see you there! 🔗 in bio ❤️ taken in Bowie State University by @jessbecre

An idea becomes reality when you share it with community. Last week, #Overstand launched at the @eatonhotel.dc Cinema. We explored the power of #lofi with @substantialmusic, shared our first tape, and spent time together— the most important thing of all.

We want to thank @eatonhotel.dc, @eaton_radio, @eastcityart, and @substantialmusic for their support and belief in our work. We also want to thank everyone who made time to support us— fighting through traffic to see the launch.

We’re excited about the new year and the next steps in our journey. 🚀 taken in Eaton DC by @jessbecre

The United States is moving through a defining moment of transition. As Americans work harder than ever to navigate economic uncertainty, digital misinformation, and the rapid shift toward cloud-based living, entire chapters of our collective memory are disappearing.

Lo-fi—long celebrated for its calming, reflective energy—has become a cultural language for remembering what we’ve lost and reimagining what’s possible.

Overstand is a multimedia fine arts series born during the pandemic that blends archival research, documentary filmmaking, and lo-fi soundscapes to make American history and philosophy more accessible.

Join us for a launch event at @eatonhotel.dc featuring @substantialmusic on 12/11. Don’t miss this. 🔗 in bio #phonk #phonkmusic #lofiandchill taken in Eaton DC by @jessbecre
