Repost from @wallpapermag 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

For decades, the funeral industry has offered families generic products with little regard for individuality or design. UK-based Urn Studios (@urnstudios) is setting out to change that. Founded in 2024 by Merel Swart and now launching its first US collection, the platform invited seven American artists to rethink the urn as an object of identity and enduring design, creating pieces that reflect the lives they commemorate rather than a single idea of remembrance.

Ceramic artists @abbey_peters, C.C. Boyce (@boycestudio), Hui-Yong Kim, Jesse Hamerman (@jesseevan), Marianna Jamadi, @michelle_wen_artist and Philip Kupferschmidt (@_pk_ceramics), each bring their own approach to form, craft and materiality, from tactile glazes and sculptural silhouettes to vessels that integrate candles and flowers. By making contemporary options more visible and accessible, Urn Studios hopes to broaden public understanding of what an urn can look like, and the role it can play within the home. The range reimagines the urn as a creative object that supports a person’s memory and story to live on.

Just getting back into the studio after coming down from @icff_official two weeks ago and thinking on how all my work relates. It’s so cool to be able to install the pieces together and get a different perspective. by @jesseevan

The smallest offering of my newest urns @urnstudios the Trevor urn!

There are three sizes in two different glazed colorways, this one has the lid that sits perfectly in between the lines drawn by the handles, a natural extension of the form. by @jesseevan

This is the Whirling Urn in Sand! This is the medium sized cremation urn I made for @urnstudios for their new collection.

Its actually a throwback to a very early vase design when I first started building handles on forms, but modernized😉 And I’ve always wanted to extend the form and fill the negative space created by the handles, and now with this covered vase, you can have both! by @jesseevan

I was invited to design and create some urns for @urnstudios and am happy to share with you the final pieces! This is their first US collection, and am so excited with the three different urns I made.

Here is an iteration of my Dune vase in Royal Blue. I love how the lid extends the form and am excited to continue to explore all the possibilities!!

I’ve been working closely with @bam_brooklyn and consulting on numerous public art projects around their campus for the past number of years. And am so proud to unveil the first of three murals by @omaridouglin across from the BAM Opera house.

I worked closely with the BAM team for years to program their mural site, worked with the amazing curator @alessandrrraaa to select three artists, and also restored the infrastructure with @domantayart

It’s been so fulfilling to see all our labor come to fruition and am excited for some upcoming projects to be announced soon! by @jesseevan

The Diamond Looping Mirror in gold exists!! My largest mirror to date in a gloriously rich and nuanced glaze. You have to see it in person to marvel at the details😉
