If this isn’t the quintessential East Coast summer, I don’t know what is.

Salty air. Sandy toes. Crisp whites, navy blues, and a golden retriever running through the waves. The kind of moments that never go out of style.

I recently saw Benson Boone in concert, and one lyric from Momma Song has stayed with me:

“Cause I’m gonna need this, when I’m holding pictures of you and that’s all that I’ve got left.”

It stopped me in my tracks because that’s exactly why photographs matter.

The days can feel long, but the years pass in the blink of an eye. One day, these beach nights, tiny footprints in the sand, and little hands reaching for yours will simply be memories. The photographs you make today become the way you hold onto them tomorrow.

I took this picture of myself the week after I finished Chemotherapy, October 2023. I had, in all ways, lost myself. I was so sick, so weak, so bald. But I was finally cancer free.
Unfortunately, I only stayed cancer free for 6 months. After one of my routine scans showed a reoccurrence in a rib, my Stage 3 diagnosis became Metastatic Breast Cancer. Stage 4.

However, Today, on the Eve of 2026 and almost 3 years from my initial diagnosis, I can FINALLY say I’ve been cancer free for 1 year!!!! after receiving scan results that confirmed there is (still) no active disease in my body.

I’ve been waiting for this milestone for so long, and I never really knew if I’d ever even get to experience it.
Where I am today, mentally physically emotionally, is the antithesis of where I was the day I took this photo.

One thing we can count on is that there are seasons of our lives, some are amazing and some can be horrendous. But, the challenges that get thrown at us provide the opportunity to grow in the most fulfilling, powerful ways. No matter how scary they are.

Today is such a big day for me, and an important reminder to never give up.
