I’m leaving my studio coming fall to travel to a residency program in the south of china🎋 beyond excited to explore new pigments and materials in the mountains. Can’t believe I will have weeks to paint without distraction and learn about textile traditions from Yunnan

Midnight Performance at the Theater, 2026
Largest painting on fabric I’ve done so far.. A midnight play takes place each night when we close our eyes, we’re all trapped and seated for it..🪾🧚🏼🐛🦋

Started this painting a few months ago after Hockney died. Inspired by his stage designs from 1975 for the Rake’s Progress.

„The result looks quiet and soft, but that’s not what the process is about.“

Jessica @jessicaslever is a textile artist and painter. She makes her own paint from pigments and soy milk, so she can work on cotton and linen. Mixing the colours beforehand is a ritual that slows her down and makes her choose more carefully.

She left art school in the US during covid and came back to Amsterdam. Right now she’s working on a series about the unconscious and the phases we go through as people, which she also sees in the moon. Myths, culture and storytelling passed down through generations inspire her, as does anything handmade with a rich history, like sewing and embroidery.

People often describe her work as soft and feminine. Jessica sees it differently: it’s physical work, sewing and making by hand, and the softness is the result of all that labour.
Next to her studio practice, Jessica runs a zine collective under the name Off the Leash. They gather work from artists and writers around specific themes and publish independently each season. by @jessicaslever

Earth pulls me back, 2026. 🪲🦋 Part of a larger body of work I’ve been working on over the past year. Searching for inner landscapes that are alive within all of us. All the phases we move through and the hidden structures these can reveal in the outer world, in nature.
