A delicate medium meets an untamed subject.

In Hard To Get To Know, Jess Kellner demonstrates the expressive potential of watercolor through a subject more often associated with force than fragility. Loose washes and fluid edges allow the horse and rider to emerge gradually, capturing the energy of the ride without relying on rigid detail. The composition feels alive, balancing moments of precision with areas that remain intentionally open.

Rather than freezing a dramatic instant, Kellner embraces the fleeting nature of movement. The luminous yellow ground creates an unexpected sense of space, while layered washes of warm earth tones suggest motion, weight, and rhythm. His ability to communicate so much with so little is what makes these works so compelling. Every brushstroke feels purposeful, inviting the viewer to slow down and discover something new with each look.
